Are you a UX researcher, digital anthropologist, or curious, structured listener who knows how to turn real user feedback into product insights?
We’re looking for a UX Researcher & User Interview Volunteer to help us better understand the needs, behaviors, and challenges of our future users as we build Recipe Empire - an experimental web platform focused on sustainable food and climate action.
What We’re Building
Food systems account for nearly one-third of global emissions. The IPCC and leading climate bodies have identified shifting to sustainable, healthy diets as one of the fastest, most cost-effective ways to mitigate climate change. Recipe Empire is a platform designed to support that shift - by making sustainable, plant-forward, culturally diverse recipes and food knowledge accessible and community-driven.
We’re still in the early stages of development. We need to understand what people actually want, need, and struggle with - so we can design the right experience.

What You’ll Do
We’re looking for a volunteer who can
- Design and conduct early-stage user interviews and usability research
- Help us identify key user groups and recruitment strategies
- Gather and synthesize user insights and needs
- Translate qualitative feedback into actionable product recommendations
- Create user personas, journey maps, and pain point summaries
- Collaborate with our product and development teams to inform platform structure
- Document findings clearly for an evolving, distributed team
- Experienced in UX research, user interviews, or human-centered design
- Skilled at structuring and facilitating conversations to gather real insights
- Comfortable working in early-stage, lean environments
- Clear communicator, able to translate qualitative findings into product insights
- Organized and collaborative
- Bonus Interested in food systems, sustainability, or social impact tech
- Help shape an experimental platform aligned with climate action goals
- Apply your UX research skills to a mission-driven project
- Influence product direction based on real user needs
- Flexible, remote contribution - no rigid time commitment
