As an intern on the Asia/Pacific Team in the Archives and Area Support Division of the Church History Department, you will assist in collecting, preserving, and sharing Church history throughout our assigned areas. This is an exciting and unique opportunity for someone interested in pursuing a career in history, international relations, or library/archival science. We are looking for a motivated, energetic, and organized individual to join our team!
This paid internship is anticipated to last one year (12 months). This position is a part-time (28 hours per week) hourly, nonexempt position. The candidate must be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from (within the last 12 months), an undergraduate- or graduate-degree program. In this position, you will work under the direction of Church archivists and historians and will receive training and/or day-to-day direction from them.
Responsibilities
Paid Interns are qualified while enrolled in an educational institution and for one year following graduation. They must sign a Paid Internship Engagement Letter.

Responsibilities
- Processing archival records in paper and/or electronic format acquired by the Church History Department
- Assisting in workflow management of records from acquisitions through processing, digitization, and storage
- Assist in the acquisition process as needed
- Assist with additional team projects such as research, reporting, and team event coordination
- Archives research, acquisition of records, and processing records (workflow management) – with heavy emphasis on records processing/cataloging techniques that align with Church History Department standards
- Church history events and symposiums
- The Church History Department’s worldwide documentation program

- Bachelor’s degree (or senior looking to graduate within 6 months) in history, library science, international studies, anthropology, religious studies, or a related field
- Basic understanding of archival research, theory, and practices
- Self-motivated and dependable
- Excellent English and editorial skills
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Word, and Excel
- High degree of organizational skills, including scheduling and managing multiple projects
- Ability to work both independently and within a team setting
- Respect for confidentiality
- Respect for diversity in the workplace
- Available to work in the Church History Library (not remotely) 28 hours per week. There is flexibility in specific scheduling (especially if you are attending school), but work must be accomplished between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Leadership and training experience
- Experience conducting research and/or working in an archive, including arranging and describing archival collections
- Knowledge of the historiography and sources of Church history
- Understanding of Church history in a global context
- Asian and Pacific language skills, both written and verbal
- Familiarity with Asian and/or Pacific cultures
