What are the responsibilities and job description for the ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIAN position at The City of Plant City?
Plant City, FL
- Schedules and performs testing and repair of backflow prevention assemblies. Maintains inventory of backflow prevention assembly parts. Maintains associated equipment and facilities.
- Assists in cross connection control inspections and related site assessments to ensure that the City’s water distribution system is adequately protected from contamination by internal and external sources.
- Assists with water, stormwater, and wastewater related compliance inspections on City properties, public roads and rights-of-way, wetlands, commercial and industrial facilities, and other sites.
- Assists in the collection of surface water, stormwater, and wastewater samples.
- Assists in the implementation of environmental education and compliance programs for internal staff training and public events.
- Prepares daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports, and other recordkeeping and reporting necessary for administration of relevant programs.
- Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule that may involve activities performed outside of normal working hours.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of water, wastewater, and stormwater concerns and terminologies
- Knowledge of environmental policies and regulations
- Ability to collect data, prepare and submit legible and accurate reports, and perform required documentation and record keeping tasks
- Ability to prioritize work, plan, organize, make logical conclusions, and initiate appropriate actions. Attention to detail is very important
- Ability to communicate effectively, and establish and maintain professional relationships with co-workers, business officials, and customers
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools to perform mechanical work
- Ability to understand and properly utilize measuring instruments, gauges, and meters
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of PC and Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel, and Access
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in an established cross connection control program, environmental compliance and/or education program, or related field – 1 year.
- A combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted at the City Manager’s discretion.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license and be insurable by the City’s current insurance provider.
- Must possess approved Backflow Prevention Assembly Testing and Repair certifications or obtain within 6 months of employment.
- Must possess a Level C Industrial Pre-treatment certificate or obtain within 24 months of employment.
- Must possess a Level C Stormwater System Operator certificate or obtain within 24 months of employment.
- FEMA IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800 certification within 12 months of employment

Emergency Responsibilities:
