Sextant Wines Tasting Room Manager, Edna Valley CA
Position Description
Sextant Wines is a family owned and operated winery based in Paso Robles, CA. At Sextant Wines, we are devoted to expanding the horizons of the Central Coast wine region by matching its unparalleled terroir with artisanal varietal selections and mindful winemaking practices intent on highlighting our Paso Robles estate vineyard and surrounding regions. The Tasting Room Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of our Edna Valley Tasting Room, while working collaboratively with the other winery leadership to ensure delivery of a seamless customer experience as well as optimal management of the business. As a coach and mentor to the Tasting Room Staff, the Manger will lead by example and take on a strategic role in driving sales and traffic to the winery.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Sales, the Edna Valley Tasting Room Manager is responsible for managing the staff and day-to-day operations of the consumer and trade guest experience, winery retail sales, inventory, and merchandising. The Tasting Room Manager will work cross functionally with the Director of Marketing, Director of VIP Relations and Wine Club Manager to ensure that the overall lifetime value of consumers and trade customers is maximized.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ability to plan, execute, and achieve retail sales goals, wine club acquisition and name capture.
- Ability to supervise tasting room employees and additional staff as required.
- Establish and enforce tasting room policies and procedures and ensure all tasting room operations are completed efficiently.
- Create and schedule tasting room staff and handle shift changes when necessary.
- Work with Deli Manager to plan for needs of both areas of the tasting room on a weekly basis.
- Lead and implement business strategies to drive sales.
- Organize weekly tastings, non-private seated tastings, ensuring that the menus are printed and correct, informing staff of upcoming groups, gathering and setting of all tools used to execute each tasting experience.
- Promote and effectively sell wine and wine club memberships by educating guests about the brand and what makes us unique.
- Exceptional understanding and application of the principals of customer service.
- Hire, lead and train tasting room staff, ensuring each shift is scheduled and running smoothly.
- Plan, prepare, and execute monthly tasting room meetings with team.
- Provide leadership and coaching to staff on a regular basis and provide annual performance reviews in partnership with the Director of Sales.
- Work with tasting room staff to ensure tasting rooms are clean, organized, and the facilities are maintained with excellence.
- Plan, execute, and achieve retail sales forecasts through tasting room activities and events open to club members and the public.
- Set up and host Private Seated Tastings if the Director of VIP Relations is unavailable.
- Continually develop and maintain a professional, customer service oriented team, focused on brand awareness, retail sales, and wine club memberships.
- Work with cross-functional team and oversee tasting room inventory and stocking of wine, non-wine merchandise, sales/POS materials, and forms.
- Work in partnership with all Managers to ensure seamless communication, policy, and guest experience.
- Contribute to weekly all staff email with encouragements, items that need attention, and areas of awareness for tasting room staff.
- Submit reports to accounting and DTC management as required, including transfers and removals, bi-monthly inventory.
- In collaboration with the Director of Sales and Director of Marketing, ensure consumers can be included in effective campaigns by collecting contact information and tying transactions to customer records.
Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum 3 years Tasting Room Management experience, including proven people management skills
- Experience with Wine Direct a plus
- Strong Leadership and team building skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a high level of attention to detail
- Project management skills and multi-tasking ability
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication skills
- Must be able to lift and move 45lbs
