What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Assistant to the Founder position at The Croft School?
The Croft School – Special Assistant to the Founder
Boston, MA and Providence, RI
Start Date: July 1, 2025 (approximately) or sooner, as available
About The Croft School
The Croft School is a young high-quality independent school organization. We currently operate three schools across Boston and Providence. Our schools provide a rigorous, balanced, student-centered program to their students and a unique parent-oriented experience to their families, all within a tight-knit, diverse, and joyous environment. We are considered by many families and teachers to represent an exciting new type of school that is ideal for those concerned about the area’s existing public school (inconsistent quality; driven by standardized test outcomes) and private school (elitism; unaffordable; lack of diversity; limited innovation) options.
Our first school opened in Providence in 2018. It currently educates 200 students across Kindergarten - Grade 6, and will ultimately grow into a K-8 school.
Our second school opened in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston in 2020. It currently educates 225 students across Preschool - Grade 4, and will ultimately grow into a Preschool - Grade 6 school.
Our third school opened in the South End neighborhood of Boston in 2022. It currently educates 100 students across Preschool - Grade 1, and will ultimately grow into a Preschool - Grade 6 school.
More information about our organization and schools can be found here: www.thecroftschool.org.
About The Role
The Croft School is seeking a Special Assistant to the Founder who will work very closely with our Founder and Executive Director, Scott Given.
The role presents a unique opportunity to play a critical role in a young, innovative, entrepreneurial organization that is increasing in complexity and scale. This individual will be one of four team members who will work on our “behind the scenes” team to help our school leaders, teachers, and schools deliver an outstanding experience for our students and families.
This individual will support and “manage” many aspects of the Founder’s workstreams, including supporting his communication with a large array of stakeholders and helping him to manage his efficient and effective use of time. In addition, this individual will have a broad array of tangible responsibilities across many functional areas overseen by the Founder, including: marketing, enrollment management; facility, construction and real estate management; human resources; database management; knowledge management; summer camp program development and oversight; and internal and external communication coordination. Many of these responsibilities have been part of the Founder’s role up to this point - hence, we see this as an important moment to begin more strategic delegation. In addition to the above areas of work, this individual can expect regular ad hoc projects and tasks to arise in our fast-paced environment.
Individuals considering this role should understand its intensity. Given the breadth of responsibilities that will be managed by the Founder and this Special Assistant, work weeks of approximately 50 hours, including occasional evening and weekend work, will not be uncommon.
It is likely that work can be completed “offsite” during ~2 days per week, while being onsite at one of our school campuses will be important during the other ~3 days per week.
Qualifications And Qualities
The Croft School offers compensation which is competitive with other local independent and public school opportunities.
Non-Discrimination
As an equal opportunity employer, The Croft School does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, ability, age, religion, sexual orientation, or national or ethnic origin. We encourage applicants of all backgrounds to apply.
Next Steps
Interested candidates should share a short cover letter of interest, along with an attached resume.
