Job Description Indrotec, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Nutrition Services Supervisor II to oversee the daily operations of St. Paul Public Schools food service program. This role is responsible for ordering, receiving, preparing, and serving food while ensuring meal accountability for a medium-sized student population. The supervisor II will direct the kitchen staff to maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and sanitation across various meal programs, including school breakfast, lunch, and after-school snack programs. Qualified candidates will have the following skills and abilities
General Statement of Duties
- Supervise and coordinate food preparation and service activities.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and nutritional standards.
- Oversee meal accountability and food distribution at additional sites if needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in kitchen operations.
- Train and manage kitchen staff and volunteers.
- Monitor inventory and order supplies accordingly.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct the work of kitchen staff and volunteers.
- Coordinate the preparation and serving of meals based on established menus.
- Ensure all food items are prepared in a timely and sanitary manner.
- Monitor food quality, taste, portion size, and presentation.
- Order food and supplies from vendors and ensure accurate inventory control.
- Inspect food deliveries for accuracy and quality.
- Respond to catering requests and ensure timely fulfillment of orders.
- Manage cash handling, prepare bank deposits, and generate related financial reports.
- Assist with cashier duties as needed.
- Ensure proper operation, maintenance, and sanitation of kitchen equipment.
- Enforce compliance with health and safety regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of food safety, preparation, and storage.
- Knowledge of basic nutrition principles and their impact on meal planning.
- Ability to efficiently prepare and serve meals in a school setting.
- Proficiency in using institutional kitchen equipment and ensuring cleanliness.
- Strong arithmetic skills for meal cost calculations and financial reporting.
- Effective communication skills to interact with staff and students.
- Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate team members.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills to manage multiple tasks under time constraints.
- Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in culinary arts, dietetics, or a related field, OR two years of college coursework in nutrition or a related field, with six months of experience in large-scale food preparation/service, OR High school diploma/GED with two years of supervisory experience in food preparation within a school cafeteria, restaurant, or similar food service setting. Must obtain a Minnesota Department of Health Food Manager’s Certification within 60 days of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a school nutrition program.
- Experience managing food service operations in an institutional setting.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
Benefits: Health care insurance benefits available first of the month following 60 days of employment. Thirty (30) hours worked per week must be averaged in order to maintain coverage. 401k enrollment is available per the Secure Act guidelines. Earned Sick and Safe time is accrued and can be used per the State of MN guidelines.
