What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ophthalmic Technician position at The Eye Center of Central PA?

The Eye Center of Central PA is seeking skilled and motivated Ophthalmic Technicians to join our team. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role in assisting ophthalmologists, optometrists, and physician assistants in providing exceptional eye care to our patients. This is a full-time position with competitive pay and benefits.


The ideal candidates for the Ophthalmic Technician position will be required to travel to multiple clinic locations throughout the week and work a range of hours (hours generally fall between 7am and 5:30pm).


Duties:

  • Perform preliminary eye examinations, including taking patient histories, and documenting chief complaints.
  • Conduct various diagnostic tests such as visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and visual field testing.
  • Assist with contact lens fittings and teach patients proper insertion, removal, and care techniques.
  • Administer eye medications as directed by the provider.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records using electronic medical record systems.
  • Provide patient education on eye health, contact lens wear, and post-operative care instructions.
  • Preparing patients for the provider examination and follow-up with specialized tests, as ordered by the provider.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant preferred.
  • Although skilled, certified ophthalmic personnel are preferred, we will provide all the training necessary for the right candidate to succeed.
  • Previous experience in ophthalmology or optometry setting highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology related to ophthalmology desirable.
  • Familiarity with ophthalmic instruments and equipment desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
