Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Location: 50 Loomis Place, New Haven, CT
Duration: Temporary (Seasonal-Summer, 6/30-8/8 with training beginning on 6/23/25)

Job Summary:
The Horizons Teaching Assistant (TA) will support the educational and developmental needs of students participating in the Horizons program, which is designed to provide a robust learning experience that fosters academic growth, social-emotional development, and community engagement. The TA will work closely with the program coordinator and lead teachers, assisting in the delivery of a comprehensive curriculum and facilitating a positive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instructional Support: Assist teachers in the planning and implementation of instructional activities. Provide support in delivering lessons and engaging students in hands-on, experiential learning.
- Classroom Management: Help maintain a safe, organized, and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning. Monitor student behavior and provide guidance as needed to promote positive interactions.
- Individualized Support: Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning concepts and provide additional assistance as necessary. Adapt instructional materials and activities to meet diverse student needs and learning styles.
- Assessment and Documentation: Assist in assessing student progress and maintaining accurate records of academic performance and behavioral issues. Help prepare progress reports and communicate updates to parents as needed.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with teachers, other TAs, and staff to create and implement effective teaching strategies and interventions. Participate in team meetings and share insights regarding student progress and classroom dynamics.
- Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge of best practices in education and child development.
- Extracurricular Activities: Support and participate in extracurricular activities, events, and field trips organized by the Horizons program to enhance the overall educational experience for students.
- General Administration: Assist with administrative tasks, including preparing materials, organizing supplies, and maintaining equipment to ensure the smooth operation of the program.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience working with children in an educational setting (classroom, tutoring, camps, etc.).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Patience, empathy, and enthusiasm for supporting diverse learners.
- Ability to manage classroom dynamics and reinforce positive behavior.
- Familiarity with educational technology and resources is a plus.
Compensation: $4200 for the summer
