Responsibilities

Summary

The Employment and Education Coordinator is responsible for utilizing computer labs andstandard educational classes to provide instruction, resources and referrals for educational andemployment advancement. Provides support and serves as the primary point of contact for theEducation and Employment program at the Day Reporting Center. Learns, uses and modelsprinciples of the “What Works” system through evidence-based practices in all interactions withclients and other staff members.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Employment and Education Coordinator conducts individual education assessments andcreates treatment plans for each referred participant using principles of the “What Works”system.
  • Assists in formulating plans to achieve occupational goals and refer probationers toappropriate employers, training and educational facilities or other community agencies andorganizations.
  • The Employment and Education Coordinator provides counseling to assist probationers inanalyzing and evaluating their skills and aptitudes for employability.
  • Provides information on occupational opportunities, job requirements, training andrehabilitation resources.
  • The Employment and Education Coordinator provides employment services includingrésumé writing, mock interviews, time management, how to get along with others in a workenvironment, and how to follow instructions.
  • Assists probationers with assembling documents as necessary to legally work withinCalifornia (e.g., California ID, Social Security Card, etc.);
  • The Employment and Education Coordinator mentors the probationer in disclosingappropriate information regarding past convictions and/or parole status to the employer.
  • Assists probationer in locating and securing employment, college enrollment or vocationaltraining.
  • The Employment and Education Coordinator works with probationer once they have beenemployed to address issues that may arise after job placement.
  • Obtains verification of probationer employment; and
  • Identifies and establishes a working relationship with local area employers to assist with therecruitment of probationers.
  • Assists other staff with general operations to meet the needs of the program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree from a granting institution accredited by theWestern Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) or equivalent and a minimum of one(1) year of experience as a Job Developer or similar position; or shall possess a high schooldiploma, or its equivalent, and a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Job Developeror similar position.
  • Knowledge of current management techniques.
  • Familiar with the correctional system and current correctional policies.
  • Ability to conduct individual counseling sessions and facilitate small groups, and interface
  • with outside agencies.
  • Ability to write clear concise reports in English using correct grammar.
  • Must be able to react quickly and appropriately in an emergency situation.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.

Pay

Pay USD $25.00/Hr.
