Position Overview
The Education & Engagement Manager provides leadership, coordination and implementation of all education and community engagement initiatives at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. As a strategic partner to the Vice President of Programming and Education, they will drive the implementation of ongoing education programs while crafting ambitious new initiatives that position the Hobby Center as a key leader of arts education and community engagement in Houston. This team member will be expected to drive innovative and dynamic efforts with a collaborative and inclusive approach to close arts education gaps and expand access to the arts for all, rooting the Hobby Center as a hub for engagement, inspiration, connection and learning across the region.
Overall, the position is responsible for developing and executing education and outreach programs that connect and support Houston’s growing and diversifying students, educators and audiences. This team member will partner with countless artists, educators and civic leaders to build and implement a robust series of opportunities and support systems that amplify the critical role of the arts in our lives for a more connected community.
The core activities under administration for this position include managing all aspects of the Hobby Center’s ongoing and new educational initiatives including Discovery Series, Family Series, Theater Tech program and various access initiatives as well as leveraging existing programs like the Broadway Series to build educational and access programming with touring artists.
Qualifications
Major Functions
Education Leadership & Management
- Plan and execute high impact education and community engagement programs that complement robust programming offered by arts organizations in Houston.
- Implement and expand the Discovery Series.
- Act as line producer for all access initiatives including sensory friendly performances and performance accessibility services.
- Craft educational and outreach opportunities that leverage existing programming.
- Serve as primary contact for all education and community engagement initiatives and provide exemplary partner-centered service through course of full experience.
- Track and organize the receipt of education and outreach program activities, including database, registrations, invoices, applications, release forms, transportation requests, surveys, and other paperwork, sending reminders to participants as needed.
- Develop and implement educational materials, documentation and procedures and effectively share them with partners.
- Liaise across internal departments for all education and outreach programs and address any logistical gaps.
- Be the lead for all educational and outreach walkthroughs and build understanding of technical capacities of performance spaces to clearly communicate opportunities.
- Enter and maintain current and accurate information on the VenueOps management software for all educational and community engagement programs.
- Track program and activity data and develop reporting for use in fundraising and institutional communications and ensure well-informed communication flow.
- Provide leadership and support for programming department in all areas including budget development and forecasting.
- Partner with finance team on event reconciliation.
- Work with marketing and communications team on educational and community engagement programs promotion.
- Develop and maintain educational programming materials, filing system and website information.
- Serve as Manager on Duty at performances and provide day-of support for performances and events.
Community Engagement
- Represent the Hobby Center in the community and actively participate in key local and national conferences and collaboratives.
- Plan and implement collaborative efforts and robust engagement opportunities to deepen relationships with Houston teaching artists, educators and arts organizations.
- Serve as a thought partner to teaching artists, educators, arts organizations and district leaders to support their objectives and strengthen the arts education ecosystem in our city.
