About the Role
We are seeking to appoint a Health, Safety and Environment Adviser to join our Sustainability, Health and Safety (SHS) Team, and assist the ICR in promoting a proportional approach to risk management to enable world class research. The successful candidate will play a key role in risk management, by being a subject matter expert of one or more specialist health and safety areas, acting as a point of contact for staff and students seeking advice on a range of HS&E matters, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- To provide subject matter advice and support to personnel at the ICR on a number of HS&E disciplines, including but not limited to : fire safety management, radiation, chemical handling / disposal, compressed gases, laser safety, and safe use of cryogens.
- To engage with staff and students on matters of health and safety, to promote a positive safety culture and a culture of continuous improvement.
- Support the Head of Health and Safety to implement the Institute Health and Safety Action Plan.
- Lead on audits, inspections and investigations.
- Communicate significant findings / lessons learned / trends from audit, inspection and investigation to relevant personnel via existing channels including provision of relevant reports & information to safety committees.
- Deliver relevant health and safety training to personnel.
- Maintain, review and update policies and guidance relevant to matters of health and safety.
- Maintain professional competency, stay up-to-date with changes to legislation and best practice, and maintain legal register.
About You
We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic individual, capable of being a self-starter as well as an effective team player. The ideal candidate must be a strong communicator, able to present confidently on matters of HS&E as well deliver training, and build rapport across all areas of the organisation. Preferably we are looking for a candidate that has a scientific background who has a strong understanding / experience of risk management within academia / research.

Working closely with scientific staff and professional services teams to provide specialist information and advice to support the ICR to drive environmental sustainability improvement, co-ordinate HS&E matters on behalf of ICR and manage ICR's externally certified management systems (ISO14001, ISO45001).
