About the Role:
Our client in the insurance industry is seeking a highly skilled Workday Payroll Specialist to support their ongoing Workday implementation. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity, offering a hybrid schedule based in Mayfield Village, OH.
This role will be instrumental in helping transition payroll processes from PeopleSoft to Workday, with a strong focus on process design, configuration, and testing. Once the system is live, you’ll serve as a go-to expert, helping train internal teams and ensuring a smooth transition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in Workday Payroll implementation meetings and configuration efforts.
- Review, evaluate, and optimize payroll processes in Workday.
- Partner with external consultants and internal stakeholders to align payroll strategies.
- Assist in setting up payroll-related configurations (e.g., tax codes, departments, cost centers).
- Provide insight on one-time payments, bonuses, deductions, and retro pay processes.
- Identify and communicate downstream impacts of proposed process changes.
- Recommend process improvements with a focus on automation and efficiency.
- Support go-live activities and deliver training to internal staff.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
Must-Have Qualifications:
- 5 years of payroll process experience, including 3 years working directly with Workday Payroll.
- Hands-on experience with Workday Payroll implementation (end-to-end preferred).
- Deep understanding of U.S. payroll tax laws and compliance.
- Strong process design/redesign and project participation experience.
- Proficient in Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP).
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, HR, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience with large-scale organizations (5,000 employees).
- Familiarity with both PeopleSoft and Workday systems.
- Background in process improvement or change management.
