Associate Director, Security
The Jewish Museum seeks an experienced and highly professional Associate Director of Security to help lead and coordinate all security functions across the Museum. The Associate Director, Security is responsible for the daily supervision of all in-house and contract guards and for training and hiring security personnel. Working closely with the Visitor Experience staff, the Associate Director, Security helps to provide an engaging, customer-focused Museum experience, while ensuring the safety of the staff, public and Museum assets.

Responsibilities :
- Hire, supervise and provide leadership to the Museum's security team, which includes 40 security guards, control room operators, and temporary contract guards.
- In case of emergency, be prepared to lead all evacuation and safety protocols, including liaising with the police, fire department and other emergency response units.
- With the Director of Operations, develop and maintain security, safety and fire protection protocols that reflect current standards and Museum best practices. This may include evacuation plans, security operations manual, accident and incident reports, fire and natural disaster plans, and related materials.
- Train security personnel in emergency procedures, first aid, and other applicable safety standards; train Museum staff on security protocols and conduct safety onboarding for all new hires.
- Develop and maintain schedules to ensure adequate coverage throughout the galleries and Museum.
- Review security personnel payroll and timekeeping records to ensure accuracy and compliance with collective bargaining agreement terms.
- Train security personnel in how to effectively communicate with a diverse museum audience coming from a place of civility and empathy, including de-escalation training for instances where confronted with anxious, challenging or hostile behavior.
- Tactfully moderate and resolve escalated issues in a customer-focused manner while still ensuring the safety of the Museum and its assets.
- Assist in conducting regular inspections and surveys of the physical infrastructure to identify security, alarm, fire protection, and other safety concerns and make recommendations for appropriate remediation.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with New York City Police Department and other law enforcement and public safety agencies.
- Stay abreast of current events and potential threats that may impact the Museum; notify senior management and makes appropriate mitigation plans as needed.
- Network with security personnel at other cultural institutions; participate in professional organizations relevant to the field.
- Administer the parcel control program including maintenance of related audit trail programs such as parcel passes, object removal notices, etc.
- Collaborate with Museum registrars and curators on the delivery and safekeeping of art loans and related shipments.
- Manage the security components of the Museum's participation in the Transportation Security Administration's Certified Cargo Facility Program in conjunction with other key principles in the program.
- Assist with developing and overseeing the Security Department operating budget.
