Job Summary:
In accordance with The King’s Daughters’ School’s Vision of improving lives of individuals with developmental disabilities through caring, goal-oriented service by dedicated staff in a safe, warm learning environment, the Center for Autism Director provides leadership in the Center for Autism Program that focuses on student success and solution-based outcomes.
The Center for Autism Director is directly responsible to the Senior Director of Programs, and is a salaried, exempt position scheduled to work a minimum of 40 hours per week or based on the needs of the program with one-half hour for lunch.
Salary commensurate with experience and credentials, and in line with public school assistant principals or residential building administrators

Essential Functions:
· Educational Leadership: You will ensure that KDS standards are upheld in every aspect of the educational and day experience for our clients. This includes determining appropriate placements based on age, developmental level, and interests, maintaining client/staff ratios as per licensure and TDOE requirements, and collaborating with other departments to find student-focused solutions. You will also communicate any student or resident concerns to the Senior Director of Programs to resolve conflicts and address parental concerns.
· Assessment and Data Management: You will oversee the completion of individual student and resident assessments, ensuring that data is collected accurately and entered promptly. You will participate in IEP meetings and work collaboratively with other departments to address any behavioral or student-related issues.
· Goal Setting and Curriculum Development: You will lead the process of setting goals for students and residents, working as a team within the department to establish and implement these goals with fidelity. You will ensure that data collection towards these goals is thorough and that progress reports are completed accurately and on time. The curriculum you supervise will be goal-directed, developmental, sequential, and adaptable to the individual needs, interests, and abilities of each student or resident.
· Program Implementation: You will develop and implement a robust curriculum that caters to the interests and functional abilities of students and residents. You will guide department staff in their roles, ensuring they understand and effectively implement the curriculum and programs. You will also adjust and innovate strategies as needed, reporting client progress regularly to stakeholders.
· Staff Development: You will supervise and lead the educational/day program staff, providing direct instruction and working with supervisory staff to ensure all team members perform according to The KDS Way. Your responsibilities will include managing payroll, interviewing, scheduling, PTO requests, employee counseling, and terminations, with a focus on fostering individual and organizational growth.
· Administrative Duties: You will handle various administrative tasks, such as approving material requisitions, van usage, and student/resident activities. You will serve as the liaison for the department, resolving concerns and issues with other departments, families, or stakeholders. Additionally, you will monitor classrooms and houses for cleanliness, striving to meet KDS facility standards.
· Committee Participation: You will be an active member of several organizational committees and teams, including the Performance and Quality Improvement Team (PQI), Student Intervention meetings, Admissions committee, and Human Rights committee. You will also attend external conferences and meetings to stay informed about industry standards in special education.
· Educational Partnerships: You will plan and implement programs for observations, practicum experiences, and student teaching in collaboration with institutions of higher learning.
· Professional Development: You will attend 24-hour in-service training annually to continue your professional growth and stay updated on best practices.
Acceptable Experience and Training:
· Possess a Master’s degree in special education or related field or certification in at least one area of exceptionality with proof of education prior to employment. A valid Tennessee Administrator’s license is required.
· Provide evidence of a current TB Skin Test upon hire and prior to first day of employment.
· CPR/First Aid and Handle with Care Training upon hire and prior to first day of contact with students and maintain certification annually.
· Medication Administration Training within first 90 days of employment and maintain certification annually.
· Successful completion of all pre-employment background screenings
