Job Description – Floater/Teacher Aide

Job Qualifications:
- 9-12 completed semester units in Early Childhood Education/Development
- 18 years old, high school graduate
Alternative: 2 completed semester units in Early Childhood Education each semester following initial employment and continuation in an educational program until fully qualified
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Must have a warm and supportive attitude and disposition toward working with children and their families.
- Must be reliable.
- Must be flexible in receiving assignments or adapting to changes in the program.
- Must be willing to accept supervision in order to improve work performance.
- Must have excellent organization, oral and written communication skills.
- Must be physically able to perform the job of a teacher of young children.
Job Summary:
The Floater is responsible for caring and assisting children in her care. She works closely with the Lead Teachers in the classrooms to promote intellectual, social and physical growth for all children in compliance with CA state regulations, and in accordance with the goals and curriculum plan of The Learning Experience (TLE).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures the safety and well-being of the children through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space, proper maintenance of equipment, and regular practice of fire drills and other emergency procedures
- Assists the Lead Teachers in operating the classroom in compliance with all child-care licensing standards, and TLE Employee and Policy Handbooks
- Greets children and their parents warmly and with enthusiasm each morning
- Assists arriving children (removes outwear, selects activities of interest to them, etc).
- Keeps current head count of the children at all times
- Assists Lead Teachers in implementing TLE curriculum, and lesson plans to meet the physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of each child
- Assists Lead Teachers in implementing activities daily to stimulate age appropriate learning (sing-a-longs, art projects, sensory exploration, outdoor stimulation, etc.)
- Engages with all children in her care, giving them individual attention as needed
- Ensures that child-care routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic, and consistent with the child development principles. This includes but not limited to: supervising snacks, and meals, assisting toileting, hand washing, toy bath, napping, children’s music playing, smooth transitioning between activities, etc.
- Assists Lead Teachers in maintaining “Safe and Secure” app if needed
- Assists Lead Teachers in maintaining classroom bulletin boards, ensures that they are current, and neat
- Assists Lead Teachers in displaying children’s art work with the “Documentation of Learning Certificate”
- Ensures the classroom is clean, neat, orderly and clutter free at all times
- Will clean and sanitize diaper changing pad according to CA state regulations (proper use of solution, etc.) after every diaper change
- Will clean and sanitize tables/high chairs according to CA state regulations (proper use of solution, etc.) before and after eating
- Sweep and maintain cleanliness of playground
- Will clean and sanitize toilets and sinks according to CA state regulations (proper use of solution, etc.) as necessary
- Will maintain cleans floors by sweeping, mopping and vacuuming as needed
- Maintain clean walls in the classroom
- Conducts focused observation of children; shares her insight with Lead Teacher
- Ensures that parents receive adequate information about their child's activities, and experiences at the Center through daily contacts per TLE requirement
- Observes children to detect signs of illness, injury, abuse, neglect, emotional disturbance, or other special needs, and reports these signs immediately to the Lead Teacher and/or Administration Staff
- Inspects the classroom, and outside playground and equipment for potential safety hazards; takes corrective action and informs the Lead Teacher and/or administration to prevent injuries
- Works as a member of the TLE team, and maintains regular communication with the Lead Teacher, the Center Director and the Center Manager to ensure continuity and a high standard of quality in all classrooms in the Center
- Contributes to the operation of the Center by participating in staff meetings and sharing information gained through attendance at workshops
- Maintains confidentiality of child and family information at all times
- Professional appearance is required at all times – TLE logo polo shirt with slacks
