What are the responsibilities and job description for the Help Desk Operations Technical Writer - Seasonal position at The Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission?
The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation is currently seeking a technical writer. The ideal candidate has technical chops, demonstrably strong communication and writing skills, and can effectively interact with other writers, product managers, and project leads. We are looking for writers with experience making complex ideas understandable and are open to candidates with a background in software engineering, technical writing, or the world of teaching, or curriculum development.
This position will be with the nationally accredited, 6-time gold medal Parks and Recreation agency, Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, and will work directly with the Customer Service Help Desk. Which is a combination of a Technical Support and traditional Customer Service Call Center, that supports the general public as well as our internal customers, with questions that range from information about our Parks and Community Centers to internal requests for assistance with software solutions for rentals or assistance with computer hardware troubleshooting.
This position is an onsite position. Applicants should be self-starters with solid time management skills, and attention to details and deadlines to be successful in this role.
Duties and Responsibilities
Create Knowledge Articles for the Knowledge Management program, processes and procedures for Technicians on the Customer Service Call Center and job aids for internal users not on the Customer Service Call Center desk
Work with internal teams to understand product documentation requirements to produce polished and engaging content
Create strong content that fulfills company standards and audience goals
Write straight-forward user tutorials and interface text
Utilize a variety of media forms; include images and charts
Analyze current content and make improvements as necessary to maintain/establish continuity of style and voice
Technical Writer Requirements and Qualifications
Strong writing, production, and technical editing skills.
Very strong analytical skills and ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with evolving project requirements and priorities.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, including willingness and ability to consult with subject matter experts from engineering, support, and product management.
Portfolio of work and/or writing samples.
Part-time position working 30 hours a week.
A criminal background investigation will be completed prior to hire.
