What are the responsibilities and job description for the Theatre Research Institute Theatre and Event Assistant position at The Ohio State University?
The Theatre Research Institute Research and Event Assistant will be responsible for providing support for the visiting researchers and the events that will take place at the Theatre Research Institute during the summer of 2025. This will include assisting two visiting researchers that will each be onsite at the for four weeks in June and July; assisting the Curator of Dance with publicity and events associated with the International Council of Kinetography Laban (ICKL) Conference that will take place at Ohio State July 14-18; assisting the Curator of Dance with organizing items for the Thompson Library Gallery exhibit that will accompany the ICKL conference; and providing backup and assistance to public services staff.
This is a temporary, 3-month staff position that will begin on May 15, 2025. The position reports to the TRI Curator of Dance.
Job responsibilities
Conducts collections-based research to identify, suggest and retrieve appropriate special collections materials for events and visiting researchers.
Assists Curator of Dance with the description, organization and preparation of materials for Thompson Gallery exhibit.
Creates content to be used in TRI social media and/or the TRI newsletter.
Sets up and helps with group interactions with collections materials.
Assists in fulfilling reproduction requests for on- and off-site patrons and researchers.
Assists Thompson Special Collections Public Services Coordinator in supervision of student assistants.
Assists Thompson Special Collections Public Services Coordinator in monitoring departmental email for appointment requests.
Serves as backup for reading room desk coverage.
Serves as backup for coverage of opening or closing duties.
Provides support for instructional and reference services as needed.
May prepare, track, and receive Thompson Special Collections materials transported to other locations including for off-site conservation and reformatting work.
May gather materials for Interlibrary Loan requests.
Other duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in performing arts, humanities, or related field.
At least 1-year experience in academic library, special collections, and/or educational instruction.
Experience with MS Word and MS Excel.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Desired Education and experience:
- Familiarity with theatre/dance/performance history and terminology.
- Experience using finding aids to support academic research.
- Familiarity with processes for scanning and digitization of library materials
Posting Range
The posting range for this job is $22.69-$23.00 per hour.
