SUMMARY: The IT Administrator plays a crucial role in supporting the technological sovereignty, cybersecurity, and advancement of the Omaha Tribe. This position is responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, maintenance, and security of the Tribe's entire IT infrastructure and services. The IT Administrator will ensure the reliable, secure, and efficient operation of all technology systems, while demonstrating respect for Omaha traditions and values in all interactions. This role combines both hands-on technical work and strategic leadership responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Strategic Planning & Leadership:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive IT strategic plan that aligns with the Tribe's mission, priorities, cultural heritage, and long-term goals, incorporating robust cybersecurity measures and input from tribal employees and leadership.
- Manage the IT department budget and resources effectively, prioritizing investments that benefit the Omaha Tribe, including cybersecurity tools, training, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Oversee IT planning and implementation of new technologies, contributing to the long-term technological advancement of the Omaha Tribe while prioritizing cybersecurity and assessing/mitigating risks.
- Stay informed about current and emerging technologies and trends, including cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities, seeking innovative solutions that empower the Tribe while maintaining a strong security posture.
- Develop and maintain IT policies and procedures that reflect the Tribe's values, priorities, and cybersecurity best practices, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Infrastructure Management & Security:
- Install, configure, and maintain servers (physical and virtual) and network devices (switches, routers, firewalls) to meet the evolving technology needs of the Omaha Tribe, adhering to cybersecurity best practices.
- Proactively monitor system performance and availability, swiftly troubleshooting and resolving issues to minimize disruptions to essential tribal services, while remaining vigilant for potential security threats.
- Implement and maintain strong network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, antivirus software, and other security tools, safeguarding sensitive tribal data and digital assets.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls, ensuring compliance with the Tribe's data governance policies and procedures and minimizing security risks.
- Perform regular system backups and disaster recovery planning to ensure the continuity of critical tribal operations and protect against data loss and cyberattacks.
- Ensure the security and integrity of the Tribe's data and systems, protecting sensitive information and complying with relevant tribal, federal, and industry regulations, and implementing proactive cybersecurity measures.
Documentation, Auditing, and Inventory:
- Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date documentation of network infrastructure, security procedures, and IT policies, fostering knowledge sharing and collaboration.
- Conduct annual audits of IT infrastructure, documenting system configurations, security measures, and compliance with tribal policies and industry standards, identifying and mitigating potential vulnerabilities.
- Maintain a comprehensive inventory of all IT assets, including hardware, software, and licenses, ensuring accurate records, facilitating lifecycle management, and contributing to cybersecurity risk assessment.
Microsoft 365 Administration:
- Administer the Tribe's Microsoft 365 environment, including user management, license assignment, and configuration of services such as email, SharePoint, and Teams, ensuring its secure and efficient operation.
Training & Support:
- Develop and implement training plans for tribal employees on relevant technology and cybersecurity topics, promoting digital literacy and secure technology use.
- Provide timely and culturally sensitive technical support to tribal employees, empowering them to effectively and securely utilize technology in their roles.
Collaboration and Compliance:
- Collaborate with other departments to identify and address their IT needs, building strong relationships promoting effective communication across the tribal organization, and ensuring alignment with cybersecurity policies.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, upholding the Tribe's commitment to responsible and ethical technology use, and adhering to cybersecurity best practices.
- Supervise and mentor IT staff, including the Help Desk Technician, fostering a supportive and collaborative work environment that values individual growth and contributions, and promoting a culture of cybersecurity awareness. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Management, or equivalent required; Master's degree preferred.
- At least five years of experience in computer systems with at least three years specializing in computer security.
- At least three years of experience with LAN and WAN technologies, including multiple network operating systems, topologies, and protocols, required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, and/or REGISTRATIONS:
- Must pass background check and pre-employment drug screen.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and/or ABILITIES:
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Thorough understanding of networking protocols, LAN networking, and WAN networking.
- Proficient, or able to gain proficiency with, a broad array of security software applications and tools.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software needed to maintain reports and records.
