What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lower School Director position at The Pegasus School?
The Pegasus School is searching for a Director of Lower School to join our bright, curious, and kind community. The School is looking forward to the next phase of building and growth in support of our mission, and seeks a compassionate, dedicated, and caring leader to join our team.
The Lower School Director has a critical role in the leadership of the Lower School to facilitate student success academically, socially, and emotionally. The Director will be expected to run effectively the day-to-day operations of grades PK-5, including oversight of the student experience; hiring, support, and retention of faculty and staff; and support of students and families as they progress through their educational journey. Frequent and consistent communication with an emphasis on building strong relationships with all members of the community is of paramount importance. The Director will serve on the school’s leadership team, report to the Associate Head of School, and will work collaboratively with all school administrators to advance the institution. Let's begin with the history of Pegasus—it is the core of what makes us who we are today.
In 1984, Dr. Laura Hathaway (1941 - 2009) founded The Pegasus School with only 40 students, and a small group of parents and teachers. Her dream: to create an educational and nurturing community where it would be safe for students to be smart; where academic challenges would be matched by a thoughtful social and emotional embrace; and, where teachers would provide a student-centered enriched curriculum to encourage students to pursue their passions and talents. It was from this vision that the winged horse was born, and the motto, "Where bright minds soar," evolved.
Over time, the School expanded its student body to include students in grade levels pre-K through Grade 8. The Pegasus School grew, and so did its narrative. It is through these shared experiences of our community — students, teachers, administrators, parents, alumni and alumni parents — that built the School's foundation and make it a unique place. Today, The Pegasus School serves 595 students from Pre-K through grade 8. The school is situated in a park-like 14 acre setting with facilities that include a theater, gymnasium, art studios, science and technology labs, a library and many vibrant classrooms. The Pegasus School is an environment that encourages creative and critical thinking, risk taking, and problem solving in all members of its community.
Each year we welcome new students to Pegasus, and our graduates continue to thrive, contribute and influence their communities, and the world. At The Pegasus School, we abide by our mission in all we do.
We are Pegasus.
The story of Pegasus begins with intellectual curiosity and compassion. We are a vibrant academic community that inspires bright, motivated students to discover and develop their unique gifts.
