The Housing Counseling shares the Religious Coalition for Community Renewal (RCCR) commitment to affordable housing. The Housing Counselor works within our Homeownership program, which includes housing counseling and home development. Key responsibilities include providing direct engagement and housing counseling services to clients with a focus on pre-purchase, homebuyer education, and housing issues, such as those who have defaulted on mortgage payments.
Responsibilities:
- Complete comprehensive intake assessments that include review of credit history, credit score, income, and savings to determine eligibility for housing and other assistance programs.
- Perform pre-purchase and delinquency housing counseling in accordance with HUD standards and best practices.
- Work with banks, realtors, landlords, community partners, and lending institutions to meet the needs of our clients.
- Assist client with credit repair and develop work plans.
- Refer clients to appropriate programs and agencies for support services.
- Facilitate workshops that meet the financial needs of clients (Pre-Purchase, Homebuyer Education, Foreclosure Prevention, Financial Literacy, Post-Purchase, Home improvements, and Anti-Predatory lending).
- Attend community meetings and events to market the program.
- Coordinate annual community housing event and quarterly workshops
- Perform all case management system duties within counseling database.
- Accurate and timely preparation of invoices and reports.
- Maintain appropriate records, documents, and reports for clients in accordance with organizational policy and HUD work plan.
- Complete monthly statistical report, funding reports, semi-monthly timesheets, and other reports as required.
- Collaborate with community partners and attend meetings as assigned to represent RCCR.
- Promotes the mission of RCCR and advocates for affordable housing.
- Attends RCCR events.
- Maintains an update to date Outlook calendar.
- Ability to complete continuing education with monthly webinars and annual trainings/certifications.
- Any other assigned duties including but not limited to advocacy, and special projects.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Occasional temporary housing interns
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Equivalent work experience or internships will be considered such as experience in working in housing development, banking, financing, loan origination, Experience working in affordable housing strongly preferred.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, adaptability to changing priorities are necessary for the success of this position.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule to accommodation homebuyer education workshops including occasional evenings and/or one Saturday a month.
- Ability to become a HUD certified counselor within 6 months of hire date.
- Ability to become a certified 502 loan packager within 6 months of hire date.
- Complete annual professional development as required by funders and agency.
- Ability to use client management software and Microsoft Office 365 programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Valid Driver’s License / Clean Driving History
- Ability to work with a diverse range of people.
- Willingness to travel 10%
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Maintains physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following: walking, bending, stretching, lifting, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time, and operating a motor vehicle.

Salary Range: $45,000 - $55,000
