About This Opportunity
The Director of Social Services and Community Engagement is required to oversee, develop, administer, and evaluate all social services programs, including the Emergency Shelter, Food and Clothing emergency assistance, and Pathway of Hope, by the stated purposes and within The Salvation Army general social services policies and procedures, state and government regulations as well as contract funding requirements. The Director will oversee the execution of the programs in such a manner as to ensure grant compliance and program excellence. The Director will plan, develop and administer private and government grants. The Director will initiate and foster the development of community partnerships for the enhanced service delivery of The Salvation Army, participating in meetings, gatherings and other activities for the aim of improving The Salvation Army’s capacity to execute its mission effectively and responsibly.
Key Responsibilities
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
Ability to read and comprehend legal terminology to determine compliance. Ability to perform public speaking.
Ability to calculate figures and analyze mathematical computations with accuracy.
Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull light (25 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment. Mobility: duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.
Work is performed in a typical office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

About This Opportunity

Key Responsibilities
- Provides grant compliance oversight and support to enhance program excellence and grant compliance with regard to all residential and social service grants.
- Oversees the operation of community social services, including Pathway of Hope and emergency social services, including but not limited to the food pantry, rent and utility assistance programs, ensuring that the Community Social Services Manager is providing oversight, one-on-one supervision, planning and providing case management as needed.
- Provides one-on-one supervision to social services staff when needed, especially when a director or manager is conducting case management.
- Writes or assists with the writing of funding proposals and implementing contract requirements to procure and maintain funding for the operations of the emergency shelter facility, Pathway of Hope, Angel Tree, and other social services. Attend weekly executive team meetings with all executive staff to discuss programs, issues, and concerns.
- Initiates and fosters the development of community partnerships for the enhanced service delivery of The Salvation Army, participating in meetings, gatherings and other activities. Activity in the community is guided by the aim of improving The Salvation Army’s capacity to execute its mission effectively and responsibly.
- Plays a significant role in the running of the Christmas Kettle Campaign, in order to enhance community engagement and giving.
- Assures all records are kept timely and by policy and procedure.
- Reviews all personnel evaluations on all social service employees and makes comments as appropriate before performance interviews conducted by the employee’s supervisor; initials and approves any reminders, warnings, or reprimands issued to personnel.
- Advises the officers through Administrative Staff meetings and personal meetings on policy issues, social service matters, the status of all contract compliance issues, program audits, etc.
- Interprets and implements new policies and procedures as directed by the officers.
- Conducts training sessions for the public at conferences and meetings on specific program issues, such as homelessness, and case management, as needed.
- Uploads all required supporting documentation for grant compliance, ensuring that commanding officers are aware of all activities and implementing upon agreed upon action steps.
- Plans and develops corporate giving program; researches companies corporate giving history; meets with representatives to solicit corporate donations.
- As needed, prepare reports for the Advisory Board, contractors, and foundations.
- Reads and processes grievance procedures and investigates as needed. Meets with agency representatives as needed.
- Reviews legislative updates.
- Answers phone and responds to community questions about services available. Performs other related work as required.
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work or a related field is preferred.
- Five years continuous experience in administrative work with at least three years in a supervisory role and experience in grant writing, personnel management
- Any training and experience rendering competent casework services
- Valid State Driver’s License.
