Status:Full-time, Exempt
Primary Objective: The Mariners Baseball Communications Department is part of the Mariners larger Communications staff. Mariners Communications represents the Mariners organization to the local, regional and national media; and represents the news media to the Mariners organization. We establish, develop and nurture internal and external relationships. We create, record and distribute “content” and information that provide storylines about Mariners Baseball. We work with integrity and professionalism, and pride ourselves on being approachable, accessible, friendly and helpful.
Essential Functions:
- Be an integral part of the Mariners Baseball Communications Staff, the Mariners Communications Department and the larger Mariners organization, including working collaboratively, contributing ideas and suggestions to the department and creating content for Mariners fans and media partners (print, radio, TV, online and social media).
- Develop strong relationships with staff, players, local/regional/national media.
- Assist with the Mariners MLB credential system requirements for Spring Training and Regular season home games.
- Assist with the creation and production of the Mariners Information Guide and Postseason reports, including meeting deadlines and copy editing.
- Assist with the creation and production of the Mariners Yearbook and Alumni Newsletter.
- Assist in creation and distribution of daily Game Notes and News Releases.
- Assist media in covering Mariners Baseball (Major League and minor league).
- Assist with PR aspects of Home Game operation, including press box operation.
- Assist local and national media with requests for information, doing independent research, as necessary.
- Assist in creation of compelling content for the Mariners Yearbook, The Corner of Edgar and Dave (blog), @MarinersPR (X/Twitter) and other Mariners Publications.
- Assist in creation and distribution of Mariners information via a variety of social media applications.
- Assist in identifying and exploiting Mariners public relations opportunities and identifying PR challenges.
- Assist, as necessary, with non-baseball Communications needs.
- Assist, as necessary, with supervisory responsibilities for Mariners seasonal communication staff.
- Perform such duties as may be required from time to time.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in sports management, public relations, communications, journalism or other related field preferred. Equivalent, relevant work may be considered in lieu of formal education if approved by management.
- Fluent in Spanish is a plus.
- Previous experience in Major League Baseball or sports information considered a plus.
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):
- Familiarity with MLB Stats system, Elias, STATS Pass, Baseball Reference, and other baseball research programs.
- Familiarity with Forge and Major League Baseball credential systems.
- Understanding and experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign & Photoshop.
- Highly knowledgeable in baseball statistics, terminology and rules.
- Familiar with baseball statistical databases and search functions.
