Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

This Engineering Technician Series position is the entry level for the Engineering Technician class series. This position is located in Topeka, at the Materials and Research Center (KDOT Central Lab), and is within the Bureau of Research. This Engineering Technician Associate position gathers and processes information needed for research projects and performs physical tasks required to be done for research projects.

NOTE: The employee in this position must also maintain Certified Inspection certifications under the KDOT CIT Program as outlined in the Engineering Technician Progression Manual for the specific job path and any additional as outlined by the Senior Manager.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

• Works as a part of a field crew evaluating experimental bridge deck features such as overlays, seals, special concrete, repairs, construction methods, etc.
• Works in the field on pavement research projects as well as on other long- and short-term research projects so that experimental features can be evaluated.
• Works as part of a lab crew assisting in making concrete mixes, concrete research testing, and other specimen making as well as laboratory research or testing work including, but not limited to, data assembly and reduction, data entry and drafting.
• Maintains and cleans field equipment and the laboratory work area as well as helps with loading and unloading field equipment and samples.
• Performs other duties as assigned, which may include pavement management surveys, asphalt or other specialized surveys.
• Drives special test vehicles or operates other test equipment for road and bridge condition surveys to obtain roughness readings of the surface.
• Receives technology transfer through schools, presentations, computer-aided-learning, and written reports and instructions.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Driver’s License at time of appointment.
• Must complete the requirements of the Engineering Technician Progression training for this position within one year of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED. Passing Grade in HS Algebra.
