Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary: This position is essential to ensuring that the facility has clean linen. Assists with inmate clothing and linen exchange on a daily basis. Examines clothing for wear and tear and proper tagging and performs research into claims of missing items before making decision to replace. Processes inmate Form 9 requests using inmate inventory records. Routinely examines clothing, blankets, linens, towels and whites for signs of replacement for quality control. Ensures enforcement of applicable security requirements including but not limited to pat searches, key control, tool control, and movement control.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: Directly supervises inmates and is required to drive the laundry truck. Responsible for laundry distribution and supervises the operations of the various departments of the laundry to ensure all linen/clothing is properly processed, folded, counted and packed out on a daily basis. Maintains quality control by checking outgoing linen/clothing to assure both quality and quantity have been maintained throughout the operation of the laundry. Supervises the delivery of linen/clothing to ensure that each compound has the proper amount for their area. Responsible for the processing and shipping of all wearing apparel, seeing that it is processed through the proper equipment and is folded or bagged to be returned to each compound. Ensures that all procedures are being followed so that the laundry can supply the proper amounts of clean and sanitary laundry/linen to the agencies served in order to meet the needs of their consumers and staff. Requires knowledge of laundry procedures, knowledge of all equipment operations and safety practices, and knowledge of state and facility personnel policies. Assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work, and communicates in a clear, concise manner, both in person and in written format, with both laundry staff and officials of the agencies served.
Supervises inmates assigned to the laundry to ensure laundry procedures and established schedule is followed. Assists with inmate clothing and linen exchange on a daily basis. Examines clothing for wear and tear and proper tagging and performs research into claims of missing items before making decision to replace. Processes inmate Form 9 requests using inmate inventory records. Routinely examines clothing, blankets, linens, towels and whites for signs of replacement for quality control. Ensures enforcement of applicable security requirements including but not limited to pat searches, key control, tool control, and movement control. In the matter of infectious disease control, instructs inmates in the proper handling of soiled clothing items. Carries out job tasks in an exemplary manner so that inmates are provided with positive role modeling. Assists in other areas as needed to cover staff shortages.
Completes distribution records showing the amount of linen/clothing processed daily and/or issued/received, to ensure that all records which come to the Business Office are accurate. These records are used to complete weekly, monthly and yearly reports that determine laundry and inmate clothing costs for budgeting purposes and these records are also used to determine the amount of linen to be delivered back to the units. This requires the ability to develop and maintain an accurate data collection system.
Assists the other storekeepers in their duties. Assumes the duties of the other storekeepers in their absence. Receives deliveries from vendors including all incoming freight. Logs and checks in all freight and marks property for appropriate departments. Checks packing or delivery slips to ensure items are in compliance with order as far as quantity, condition, quality, and specifications. Supervises a detail of inmates and trains inmates in warehouse, safety and cleaning procedures. Maintains warehouse in a clean and orderly manner consistent with facility guidelines. Maintains inventory on Officer Uniforms, including information on sizes on hand, sizes on order, sizes damaged, and sizes needed. Maintains database by officer including information on sizes issued, received, damaged.
Performs other duties as assigned. Reviewed by the Correctional Industries Manager periodically and annually.
Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum Qualifications: One year of experience in storekeeping, including receiving, inspecting, cataloging, and storing goods and maintaining inventory records. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Valid driver's license is required.
