The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and/or licensure required. An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.
A bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field supplemented by two (2) years of professional tax or financial auditing experience and at least one (1) year of sales/use tax audit experience.
Licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.
Possession of, or the ability to readily obtain a valid Driver’s License, issued by the State of Colorado for the type of vehicle operated; safe driving record and a minimum of two (2) years of driving history.

Examples of Essential Duties – Auditing
- Applies Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) principles in the analysis of taxpayer records.
- Conducts audits in compliance with GAAP, GASB and Town requirements.
- Determines tax liabilities from taxpayer records or other available information; estimates liabilities when records are unavailable.
- Organizes detailed financial data; identifies and segregates exceptions to full compliance with the tax code.
- Attends meetings or works in coordination with the taxpayer to compile financial information from the taxpayer's records.
- Writes audit findings and conclusions summaries considering condition, cause and effect.
- Examines and verifies the accuracy of bookkeeping records.
- Educates taxpayers in computing and reporting taxes due; explains legal requirements, rules, regulations, procedures, and ordinances of the Town and other agencies involved.
- Attends tax hearings and gives testimony regarding work performed and the basis of the Town's assessment.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
- Performs follow-up on delinquent taxpayer accounts.
- Enforces tax remittance requirements on non-filed returns.
- Prepares and serves Municipal Court summonses to businesses and taxpayers; assists taxpayers through Court processes.
- Liaises with special event promoters and vendors about licensing and tax reporting requirements.
- Surveys Town businesses to ensure businesses are licensed; enforces licensing requirements on unlicensed businesses and ensures businesses are remitting appropriate taxes.
- Coordinates seizure and distraint proceedings against businesses; secures all real and personal property seized by the Town; conducts physical inventory of the property; coordinates with the auctioneer to liquidate the property.
Examples of Essential Duties – Taxpayer Education
- Liaises with businesses to ensure that proper sales tax rates are being charged, collected, and remitted; educates new taxpayers on Town tax and licensing requirements.
- Responds to taxpayer inquiries; conducts timely follow-up to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Coordinates taxpayer education efforts through development of educational handouts and creation of tax and licensing webinars and classes; conducts educational seminars as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
