Work Schedule: Academic Year (August-May) - Monday – Thursday 9:30am-6:30pm, Friday 8:00am-11:00am ; Summer (June-July) - Monday – Thursday 8:00am-5:00pm, Friday 8:00am-11:00am
Total: 35 hours per week
Compensation: $16-$18 per hour
The Training Center is a 21st Century Community Learning Center that provides experiential out-of-school learning opportunities to complement student’s regular academic programs. The program offers free homework assistance, tutoring, social emotional learning (SEL), and other educational enrichment services to families of participating students in Kindergarten-8th grade who attend Marion Community Schools, St Paul Catholic School, and Lakeview Christian School.
Job Summary: The Elementary Program Coordinator at the Training Center is responsible for developing and leading engaging, trauma-informed afterschool and summer programming that nurtures the academic, social, and emotional growth of Kindergarten through 4th grade students. This role supports the mission of The Training Center by cultivating a safe, positive, and inclusive environment that emphasizes strong relationships and holistic development. The Coordinator plans and evaluates program activities, supervises staff and volunteers, tracks student progress, and ensures adherence to the 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) grant guidelines. This position also involves close collaboration with families, schools, and community partners to support student success and well-being.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promote the values and mission of the Training Center 21st CCLC in all interactions with staff, students, parents/guardians, school personnel, and community leaders.
- Create and maintain a warm, structured environment that supports students’ academic achievement, emotional resilience, and social development.
- Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate age-appropriate programs, services, and activities aligned with educational standards and student interests.
- Work closely with the Executive Director to ensure elementary programming complies with 21st CCLC grant requirements from the Indiana Department of Education.
- Develop and implement daily schedules and written lesson/activity plans that reflect best practices in youth development.
- Under the supervision of the Executive Director, lead and support Site Assistants, volunteers, and partners in delivering quality instruction and care.
- Supervise and support students during snack and dinner, academic time, structured play, and other enrichment activities.
- Apply trauma-informed practices to manage behavior, resolve conflicts, and promote a positive program environment.
- Maintain strong lines of communication with families, including updates on student progress, behavior, and events.
- Monitor site safety and cleanliness, supporting the team in maintaining a welcoming and secure environment.
- Collect and document all objectives, outcomes, student data, and other information as needed including tracking attendance, enrollment, and calendar of activities.
- Assist with input of data in Cayen (grant reporting software) to ensure compliance for success as a 21 Century Community Learning Center.
- Build meaningful relationships with students’ teachers and school leaders to align support with classroom goals.
- Under the direction of the Executive Director, recruit, enroll, and retain students who are recommended for the program.
- Develop relationships with community partners to enhance programming and connect families with needed resources.
- Collaborate with families to identify and address individual student needs.
- Maintain substitute plans including detailed schedules and expectations for use during absences.
- Ensure all classroom and recreational equipment is clean, safe, and appropriately used.
- Coordinate transportation needs as required.
- Demonstrate initiative and flexibility in problem-solving and adapting to changing needs.
- Step in on behalf of the Executive Director when requested.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance preferred
- Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, or related field
- Experience in an educational setting or child care program working with elementary-aged children
- Passion for nurturing the growth and potential of children
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
- Ability to work independently without constant supervision - self-motivated
- Experience with Google Workspace (Drive, sheets, docs) and Canva
- CPR, First Aid, and Universal Precautions Certifications required within 90 days after entering position
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for periods of time

- Ability to lift up to 10-30 lbs
