SUMMER PROGRAM ASSISTANT NEEDED!
The CCOM Program for Access and Engagement is seeking a Program Assistant for the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) from April 14 – July 31, 2025.
Program Overview: Iowa’s six-week SHPEP is designed to help aspiring pre-health professions undergraduate students reach their academic goals through intensive preparatory science courses, as well as enriching clinical and community-based learning experiences.
Job Description: The Program Assistant will work directly with the SHPEP Coordinator and provide administrative and programmatic support.
- Part-time (20 hours per week) from April 14 – May 14, 2025
- Full-time from May 15 – July 31, 2025
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist the Coordinator with the preparation of scholars’ arrival.
- Organize and distribute student materials prior to the start of the program.
- Attend weekly meetings with SHPEP staff.
- Perform administrative tasks as needed.
- Organize and manage the SHPEP Student Government Board.
- Send out weekly email updates to students and staff.
- Work closely with SHPEP RAs to plan and coordinate weeknight and weekend optional activities.
- Assist with move-in and move-out day coordination.
- Introduce guest speakers for scheduled sessions.
- Plan and organize SHPEP events and ceremonies.
- Other duties as assigned by the SHPEP Coordinator.
Stipend:
- $6,500
Qualifications & Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least one year of leadership experience working with students.
- A valid driver’s license (required for providing transportation for scholars per University of Iowa Fleet Services).
- Ability to collaborate with individuals and groups from various backgrounds in a welcoming and respectful environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) or comparable programs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, active listening, and professionalism in handling difficult situations.
- Availability:
- April 14 – May 14 (Part-Time, 20 hours per week)
- May 15 – July 31 (Full-Time, including evenings and weekends as needed)
- Must be available 7 AM - 7 PM, Monday-Friday, and weekends as needed for program activities, on-call responsibilities, and occasional mandatory events.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Alumni of SHPEP or similar STEM programs.
- Experience working with undergraduate students from disadvantaged economic or educational backgrounds.
