Scientific Writer
This is a pivotal scientific writer position within UPMC Hillman Cancer Center responsible for assisting with writing large, multi-investigator grant proposals and other manuscripts. The incumbent will also be responsible for editing scientific reports, assisting with drafting Letters of Support for Hillman members, providing writing/editing support for publications, editing reports by internal and external stakeholders, and developing ad hoc requested scientific materials. Implements critical scientific research editing to documents and maintains compliance with all guidelines and regulations. Participates as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support over 300 UPMC Hillman Cancer Center members. The incumbent also demonstrates an ability to obtain information from multiple sources to create content for presentations and reports.
Duties include: Providing critical scientific research editing to written documents; writing, editing, and preparing ad hoc written materials as requested by partners, stakeholders, and University leadership and/or programmatic staff; maintaining writing compliance with applicable guidelines. Also, successful candidates should have strong use Sharepoint and Teams.
This position reports to the Associate Director for Research Administration but will also work closely with other senior leaders in the Cancer Center. This position will require management of many deliverables at the same time therefore the incumbent will be required to maintain a high level of organization and autonomy. A preference will be given to candidates with a Master’s degree or PhD.
Assists, in conjunction with multi-disciplinary teams, with writing large, multi-investigator grant proposals and other manuscripts, as well as editing scientific reports, assisting with website copy, providing writing/editing support for book chapters, editing reports by internal and external stakeholders, and developing ad hoc requested materials. Implements critical scientific research editing to documents and maintains compliance with all guidelines and regulations.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; must demonstrate the ability to write and speak in public settings as well as ability to communicate with a variety of audiences. Must demonstrate ability to multi-task, prioritize to meet deadlines, attention to details and accuracy as well as time management skills and follow thru.
Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
