Description
The Dean of Students reports directly to the Middle and Upper School Division Heads and is responsible for fostering an atmosphere conducive to learning. The Dean of Students will oversee all issues pertaining to the well-being and discipline of students during their attendance at the school.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with the Middle and Upper School Division Heads to develop and manage disciplinary policies, protocols, and practices that serve to support student development, learning, health, and safety.
- Promote high standards and expectations for academic performance, student leadership, personal integrity and community responsibility.
- Oversee student conduct and maintain student discipline.
- Address social and academic infractions; maintain correspondence related to grades and conduct with parents and other concerned parties.
- Counsel students when necessary, working closely with the school counselor.
- Work with the Director of Student Life to schedule special programs and events for attendance by the student body such as assemblies, etc.
- Update annually and implement the Student Handbook.
- Keep the Middle and Upper School Division Heads informed regarding student issues and campus life.
- Perform other duties as assigned by and in support of the Middle and Upper School Division Heads.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred
- 10 years of experience in education and proven success as part of an administrative team
- Outstanding organizational skills
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Dedicated to being a student advocate
- Demonstrated success as a confident problem solver
- Proven track record as an independent and goal-oriented team member
