PART TIME EARLY CHILDHOOD WALDORF ASSISTANT
(two partial days a week, Tuesday and Thursday)
Overview:
The Waldorf Early Childhood Assistant works in collaboration with our lead teacher to cultivate a warm classroom atmosphere that permeates our students' day with creative and meaningful experiences, allowing children to deeply immerse in play, develop their social awareness, and nourish their sense of wonder. The Early Childhood Assistant should strive to accomplish tasks in a calm, orderly, purposeful, and loving manner. Must guide children calmly and creatively toward appropriate behavior through a positive, self-aware approach to discipline and set definite and consistent limits.
Responsibilities:
Daily preparation and clean-up of various program activities, including snack, free play, baking, painting, outdoor play and crafts. Support the lead teacher in guiding individual children toward harmony within the class, during transitions, circle time, snack, story time, free play and outdoor activities. Helping children dress and undress for outdoor play in all weather.
Additional responsibilities include attending Parent-Teacher conferences, festivals, events related to the Early Childhood Program, and weekly department and faculty meetings.
Requirements:
Waldorf teacher training is desirable and we encourage and support our assistants to seek Waldorf teacher training, workshops, and enrichment opportunities. We require a basic understanding of the Waldorf philosophy and prior experience working with young children of mixed ages. Position is hired by the lead teacher and hiring committee.
