The Staff Accountant supports the Accounting Manager in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance and Accounting department.  Maintains and controls the General Ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization, applying the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) that includes analytical work and thorough review of financial records.  Position reports to the Accounting Manager.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Actively participates in the day-to-day, monthly, and year-end operations of the Accounting/ Finance Department including but not limited to budget management, review, and analysis.
  2. Prepares expense allocations, monthly accruals, Journal Entry (JE) recording, and adjusting/ reclassification of journal entries, when necessary.
  3. Performs general ledger account analysis and reconciliation of all assigned balance sheet accounts, including variance analysis to budget/forecast.
  4. Assists in the preparation of financial reports such as financial statements, budget performance, and Branch financial reporting.
  5. Reconciles the balance sheet and P&L statement.
  6. May prepare, reconcile, and file sales tax for the Ware Group LLC and the Ware Group INC,.
  7. Updates and maintains records for fixed assets and construction-in-progress, including the management of fixed asset software.
  8. Performs other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks that may be required to support the duties of others in the Accounting/Finance Department.
  9. Supports business insurance needs and serves as the initial point of contact for the field to report vehicle related incidences.
  10. Creates and maintains accurate and timely information in a wide variety of formats and platforms ensuring and maintaining confidentiality and privacy compliance.

Internal Relationships

 

This role regularly interfaces in writing and orally with Senior Management, Directors, Regionals, Branch Managers, Human Resources, and other Branch Support personnel.

 

External Relationships

 

The Staff Accountant role consults, confers, and communicates with a variety of external contacts that includes, but is not limited to: Johnstone LLC Corporate Office Staff, Financial Lending Institutions, State Departments of Revenue, Independent CPA’s, and various local, state and federal government agencies.

 

Education, Work Experience & Specialized Skills or Knowledge

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Some bookkeeping, accounting, or other finance-related experience preferred.
  • Ability to work with a high level of confidentiality with experience building trust-based relationships.
  • General software proficiency (e.g., Outlook, Word, accounting software) with solid Excel knowledge.
  • Attention to detail and highly organized.
  • Ability to work in a team-focused environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, with ability to communicate proficiently in English in both formats.

Typical office environment working conditions at Branch Support and Branch office meetings and periodic on-site visits to individual store and warehouse operations that require standing, walking and sitting for prolonged periods of time.

Visual acuity required for reading, producing reports, or doing computer work for extended periods of time. Very limited physical exertion required during daily activity.  Auditory acuteness required to perform heavy volume of telephone and personal contacts on an individual, or group meeting level.  Light volume of personal business travel (air or driving) of up to 10% on the local, state and national level.
