The opportunity
Delaware North Parks and Resorts is hiring for a full-time Catering and Event Coordinator to join our team at The Westin Buffalo in Buffalo, New York. The Catering and Event Coordinator is responsible for contracting and detailing local catering business, primarily in the corporate and non-social markets. The position is also responsible for all aspects of the pre-event, event, and post-event phases of group business booked at the hotel for assigned markets.

What will you do?
- Respond to incoming catering opportunities for the hotel within assigned markets.
- Identify, qualify, and solicit new catering business to achieve personal and hotel revenue goals.
- Use negotiating skills and creative selling abilities to close on business and negotiate contracts.
- Responsible for preparing all documentation for group and catering events within assigned markets including completion of event orders, meeting room set up specifications, banquet food and beverage, audio visual, program details, attrition, deposits, billing details and collection of payments in compliance with cash handling, credit card transaction and accounting policies and procedures.
- Manage group room blocks and event specifications for assigned groups, responsible for preparing resumes for group arrivals withing assigned markets.
- Coordinate with sales, property departments and customer to ensure consistent, high level service throughout pre-event, event and post-event phases of group and catering business.
- Greet customer during the event phase and hand-off to the Event Operations team for the execution of details.
- All other duties assigned.
More about you
- Between 1 to 3 years experience in hospitality, sales or related field preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products including Word and Excel.
- Outstanding interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of property management and reservation systems preferred.
Physical requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
- Able to perform all of the following: long-term standing, walking, bending, reaching, repetitive moving items up to 30 pounds.
