Worden is a 75-year-old wood furniture manufacturer. Under its new leadership, Worden has seen profitable growth in the last year and aspires to continue their growth trajectory in both the short and long term.
Worden designs and produces wood furniture for libraries, learning, working, and living spaces. Specialties include veneer, laminate, and solid wood standard products combined with custom products, and hand-applied finishes.
Position Summary
We’re searching for an energetic, hands-on manufacturing leader with experience in wood manufacturing -- One with a solid business acumen, along with strong people skills to advance the efficiency, quality, and profitability of our 50-60 person wood manufacturing operation.
This is a senior management position encompassing scheduling, manufacturing, custom/specials production, maintenance, purchasing, quality, shipping, environmental compliance, and safety. This position will also work closely with other departments such as engineering, sales, product marketing, human resources, and finance.
The Plant Manager reports to our CFO/COO, and is an active part of our leadership team.
Accountabilities
· Manage scheduling and timing of production, targeting optimum day-to-day operations to meet our on-time delivery goals and exceed our customers’ quality and lead time expectations. Monitor operations and trigger corrective actions.
· Develop, strengthen, and motivate supervisors and staff by managing responsibilities and ensuring accountability. Enstill a mantra of “how can it be done” vs. reasons why it won’t be done.
· Implement a sustainable plan to enhance and expand skills training and quality management throughout all areas of the plant.
· Promote a continuous improvement culture through communication and coaching, as well as finding opportunities to streamline production and reduce lead times.
· Have the ability to think months ahead for whats needed to suppport the desired growth of the company – around items like vendors, purchasing, staffing, cross-functional training, and continual improvements in efficiencies.
· Embrace the ‘Great Game of Business’ mentality – transparency in financials and how each individual can positively impact the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flows.
· Manage the safety, health, and environmental factors in all processes. Ensure safe work practices, maintain safety procedures, and deliver required safety and regulatory data.
· Develop and implement strategies in alignment with strategic business initiatives; provide a clear sense of direction and focus.
Requirements
- Prefer 5 years of experience managing all aspects of a facility as the Plant Manager (or equivalent position).
- Prefer a bachelor’s degree in Business, Industrial Management, Engineering, or equivalent field 10 years' supervisory experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience in forecasting, analyzing, and managing a budget.
- Highly preferred experience in finished wood furniture, furnishings, or components for architect and designer-specified applications.
- Hands on leadership with strong organizational, planning, project management, problem resolution, communication, facilitation, and influencing skills required.
