Summary:
Workforce Group is seeking a skilled Floodplain Management Specialist to support disaster recovery efforts in Florida. This role involves ensuring compliance with floodplain management regulations and implementing mitigation strategies to reduce future flood risks. The Floodplain Management Specialist will collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to oversee sustainable development within flood-prone areas. Short-term Assignment/Contract.
Responsibilities:
- Assess building and development applications within flood zones to ensure compliance with FEMA, NFIP, and local floodplain ordinances.
- Provide guidance to developers, builders, and government officials on floodplain regulations and sustainable rebuilding practices.
- Analyze flood hazard data using GIS tools to support informed decision-making in disaster recovery efforts.
- Inspect recovery sites to confirm adherence to local, state, and federal floodplain management standards.
- Support communities by assisting property owners with elevation certificates and NFIP permitting processes.
- Coordinate with local authorities to revise and enforce floodplain management plans and maps.
- Collaborate with local teams to ensure structures in flood-prone areas meet safety and resilience standards.
- Document and report findings to ensure compliance during all phases of disaster recovery.
- Perform other related tasks as required.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with FEMA's NFIP regulations and local floodplain ordinances.
- Proficiency in GIS software and hydrological modeling tools.
- Prior experience in floodplain management, environmental planning, or disaster recovery is preferred.
- Strong understanding of building codes, permitting processes, and compliance issues in flood-prone areas.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with contractors, government agencies, and the public.
- Proven ability to analyze and interpret flood maps and elevation data.
- Experience with FEMA elevation certificates and NFIP application processes is a plus.
