The Finance Assistant performs specialized clerical tasks with major emphasis on the coordination of the preparation, processing and maintenance of financial records. Works in conjunction with other staff to ensure the successful operation of the financial operations of the agency
Pay rate: $17.50/hour
Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week.
Location: Owego, NY (on-site position)

Responsibilities of the Finance Assistant include:
- Prepares and initiates electronic fund transfers to the federal and state depositories to cover withholdings
- Posts all entries from Payroll to General Ledger
- Prepares related general journal entries and posts to the General Ledger accounts
- Prepares 1099 forms for vendors as mandated by law and distributes by January 31 of each year
- Prepares and transfers appropriate amounts from individual programs to the General Operating Account to cover payroll and fringe benefit costs to the programs
- Prepares and/or is responsible for the preparation and timely submission of audit reports to respective agencies
- Makes adjustments and revisions in payroll rates or deductions in financial system
- Prepares checks for payment and posts expenses to programs as indicated from purchase orders submitted by departments, including checks for services and supplies received, mileage , security deposit refunds, etc.
- Prepare deposits for transmission to the financial institution
- Prepares and performs all entries from Cash Disbursements to the General Ledger and prints the check register
- Reviews vouchers, invoices and other financial documents according to prescribed procedures and policies in order to verify the accuracy and completeness of information recorded on them
- Prepares documents to be used for report completion
- Maintains cost tracking spreadsheets for agencywide use
- Prepares monthly bank reconciliation for all bank accounts
Minimum Education and Experience:
A graduate from a regionally accredited or registered two year college with an Associate degree AND two or more years of experience in Accounting, Business or a related field;

- Skill in mathematical computations, i.e. fractions, decimals, percentages
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
- Must be accurate, conscientious, and have a capacity for detailed work
- Must have computer skills to perform efficiently, i.e. MS Word, Excel, etc
