Description
Tosoh Bioscience LLC is a major supplier of chromatography products to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and chemical industries. Our product line includes:TSKgel, TOYOPEARL, and Ca Pure-HA bulk media, TSKgel U/HPLC columns, process development products, dedicated systems for GPC analysis, and the LenS3 MALS detector. We have optimal solutions for biological research, drug discovery, medicinal chemistry, agriculture, manufacturing, or other industrial applications.
Summary
The Procurement Specialist handles the procurement process including identifying suppliers, placing orders, and addressing quality/delivery issues. This position is responsible for managing purchase orders and ensuring adequate inventory stocking levels for production teams at one or more Tosoh sites. The Procurement Specialist will assist with warehouse activities on a regular basis. This role requires a persistent and enthusiastic individual committed to finding procurement solutions that meet Tosoh’s rapidly expanding business lines.
Reporting Relationships

Reports to the Production Manager – MCC Instruments. This position has no direct reports.
Major Duties and Responsibilities

Monitor raw material and component availability and submit purchase orders at the necessary stocking levels for regional production teams.

Develop Request for Proposals (RFP’s) with input from cross-functional areas.

Provide technical information to suppliers for new material creation. Work closely with the R&D team and Manufacturing Engineer to address any supplier deviations or proposed alternate materials.

Discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, engineering, users, vendors, and others to determine source of problem and take corrective action.

Identify and evaluate secondary and alternate suppliers based on business needs.

Present procurement metrics to the management team.

Assist with warehouse activities including material handling, parts put-away, order fulfillment, shipping, cycle counting, and physical inventory as needed (estimated 15-20% to start).

Perform continuous process improvement to reduce costs and improve delivery time.

Support the development, planning, and implementation of sourcing strategies that deliver the best value, compliance, price, and efficiencies for the respective product line.

Manage supplier performance based on quality, delivery, service, and price.

Assist with supplier management related to the quality system and annual reviews.

Participate in supplier visits and audits both onsite and virtually.

Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

Skills and Qualifications

Strong written and verbal communication skills to ensure accurate information is provided to suppliers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams.

Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and deal with changing priorities.

Skilled in working with MRP/ERP Systems such as SAP or SAGE500.

Able to effectively manage timelines and anticipate constraints such as holidays, staffing levels, and delivery schedules.

Hands-on familiarity with manufacturing processes. Knowledge of instrument fabrication is a plus.

Familiar with warehouse processes and good inventory management practices.

Ability to work independently, with a team, and collaboratively across sites and departments.

A demonstrated enthusiasm to learn.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Familiarity with ISO 9001 and other quality systems.
Education and Experience
-
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, or related field; or equivalent work experience.

Minimum 3 years’ experience in a sourcing or procurement role.

Prior professional experience in bioseparations industry a strong plus.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands of this job are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The procurement duties are primarily sedentary and require the ability to move to and from the desk. The warehouse functions require the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch for extended periods of time. The warehouse activities also require the ability to lift, move, and handle products and packages weighing up to 25 pounds on a regular basis and up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis. The position may require an estimated 5-10% travel, primarily domestic, so the individual must be able to travel by car and plane.
