Children’s Librarian
Town Hall Library is seeking a full time Children’s Librarian whose talents, skills and knowledge will encourage and inspire love of reading. We are looking for a librarian to serve ages 0-12 years old and their caregivers. Children’s librarian will support literacy, innovative programming, and embrace creativity to connect with families in our community. Children’s librarian will be responsible for collection management of materials for this age group. Our ideal candidate will be attuned to new library trends and community needs, eager to adapt to new technology, adept at building positive relationships with patrons, community partners and peers. The primary focus for this position is serving young children, but occasionally this position will also serve tweens. It is imperative that the person in this position has great knowledge of children’s literature. This is a highly visible and responsible position. Above all, the person in this position should present a positive image of the “personality of the Library” – making all people feel welcome and accepted at the Library. Duties and Responsibilities: Planning, Coordinating and Presenting of Literacy and Educational Programs: With a special focus on Storytimes building on a successful and popular multiple weekly Storytimes. Within a collaborative environment, develop ideas for programs for age’s birth to 12 that align with community needs and library strategic goals. Meet deadlines to coordinate presenters, space, calendars, materials, publicity, and other resources needed to provide programs. Evaluate programs with the goal of continuously improving quality and attendee satisfaction Planning, preparing and coordinating Library’s summer reading program Planning, preparing & implementing after-school, evening, &/or weekend programs for youth Creating and maintaining Reader’s Advisory by preparing bibliographies, bookmarks, displays to promote collection electronically and in print Assisting patrons in selecting appropriate reading material for young children Collection management of children’s material including selection and deaccession of materials. Assisting students and parents in finding information and resources Creating and maintaining partnerships with local area schools and businesses Conducting library tours for any interested groups and/or school groups Creating displays and bulletin boards in the Children’s Area of the library Helping to develop fundraisers and find grant opportunities to purchase children’s materials and fund children’s programs Working with other staff members to create crafts and display items Working at the children’s desk, answering reference questions via phone, email and in person Promote community awareness of library resources, services and programs Coordinating and guiding volunteers Miscellaneous other duties as assigned by the Library Director

Organizational Relationship: This position reports directly to the Director. This position cooperates with other staff members to meet the needs of the public, community, and the Library. Educational & Qualification Requirements: o Preference given to candidates with MLIS with few years of experience or a combination of experience and qualification o Knowledge of children’s literature, programming skills, summer reading program and technology are required o Knowledge and workings of Makerspace technology is desired Tools and Equipment: o Usage of computer, photocopier, and other various equipment necessary in the effective operation of the library, including Windows operating systems and library-related software. o Desire to learn and operate Makerspace devices such as 3D printer, Cricut Machine, Laser Engraver etc. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
