GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs difficult skilled work in installation, maintenance and repair of the electric utility transmission and distribution system; does related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision.
This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires pole climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling crouching, crawling, teaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within armlength\ operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS :
Installing, maintaining and repairing overhead and underground power transmission and distribution lines and related facilities; operating equipment.
Performs installation, maintenance and repair work on low and high volage transmission and distribution lines up to 60 KV;
Operates bucket truck, digger-derrick truck, back-hoe, trencher, service truck and other equipment in connection with duties;
Hangs transformers and connects secondary wires;
Installs, repairs and replaces cross arms, leg supports, cable insulator and lightning arrestors;
Installs new service; performs required line work on energized and de-energized circuits;
Installs underground services;
Installs and maintains overhead lines;
Trims trees; puts up banners and decorations;
Assists with a variety of emergency problems;
Locates underground power lines for contractors and property overs;
Troubleshoots and locates problems; performs necessary repair work;
Sets and pulls meters;
Helps maintain and construct substations;
Required to be on stand-by and work trouble calls;
Performs related tasks as required
KNOWLEDGE. SKILLS. AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of electric line construction and maintenance and the hazards encountered; ability to set poles, string wire and perform related work; ability to follow oral directions; ability to observe safety rules and regulations; ability to read blue prints and electric circuit diagrams; strength to perform manual work and physical stamina to withstand working under adverse weather conditions; ability to climb poles; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in electric line construction and maintenance.
SPECIAL REOUIREMENTS:
Possession of an appropriate CDL driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Possession of appropriate flagging and CPR certificates.

Pay: $67,605.00 - $82,478.00 per year
