- Familiarity of library practices, including the Dewey Decimal System.
- Must be able to alphabetize and put items in numerical order. This includes organizing items on carts and putting items back on shelves in the correct order.
- Must be detail-oriented and competent in finding books that are out of order or in the incorrect place, relocating and shifting items when room is needed for materials to fit
on the shelves. - Identifies damaged items and sets them aside for repair.
- Separates old newspapers for recycling.
- Has excellent customer service skills and a friendly demeanor; must be willing to assist patrons in locating items and direct them towards the public service desks.
- Comfortable working in different areas of the library in a busy environment.
- Capable of pushing a cart full of books weighing up to 60-70 lbs., as well as lifting library materials weighing approximately 35 lbs.
