What are the responsibilities and job description for the SEASONAL - ASSISTANT HARBORMASTER position at Town of Falmouth, MA?
The Town of Falmouth is recruiting for a part-time, Seasonal Assistant Harbormaster to work for our Marine & Environmental Sciences (MES) Department from May through Labor Day, for 20 hours per week with a flexible schedule. Some weekend and holiday work required.
The Seasonal Assistant Harbormaster assists the Seasonal Dockmaster and the Harbormaster with running the Town Marina and overseeing the operation of the Town bulkheads, landings, and other waterways facilities. Duties include maintaining Harbormaster communications throughout the thirteen harbors via the marine radio and internal communications systems, operating the marina boat, and assisting the harbor staff in rescue and complaint calls.
This position also assists boaters with lines when docking and departing, operates the pump-out station and boat in the absence of the Pump Out Assistant, and assists with the administration of Town dock and mooring regulations. The Seasonal Assistant Harbormaster is also responsible for maintaining the marina, assisting with the repair of aids to navigation and other departmental equipment, assisting with the upkeep of bulkheads, docks, floats, and waterlines, and assisting with the relocation of boats tied to Town property, including boat towing.
Other duties include, but are not limited to: processing new mooring applications and payments, performing mooring inspections, processing wharfage charges, making dockage reservations via the Town computer system for visiting boaters, and assisting with other office clerical work.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have excellent customer service skills when interacting with the general public, marina guests, and slip holders. Applicants should also be familiar with local boating rules and regulations and have the ability to handle boats, lines, and marine equipment, as well as problem solve and perform multiple tasks in a stressful environment. Marine radio communications skills and driver"s license preferred. Additional consideration will be given to applicants with previous experience, including licensure by the USCG for 6-pack or higher.
The pay for this position is $22.35/hour for the first season of employment.
