The Town of Falmouth seeks a highly motivated administrative professional to be our next full-time Administrative Clerk for our Assessing Department. The successful candidate has strong administrative and clerical experience in a professional office setting, meticulous attention to detail, and excellent customer service skills. This is a full-time, benefited position that works on-site 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Under the direction of the Director of Assessing, our Administrative Clerks perform the following functions: create and maintain files for taxable, exempt, and personal property ownership records from property sales and deeds; obtain updated information from the Registry of Deeds; process real estate and personal property abatements; submit warrants and commitments to the Town Collector and Town Accountant; process betterment payments; and maintain an exempt property list, including all charitable organizations responsible for filing (Chapter land and 3ABC).
This position also creates and maintains address files and commitment sheets for automobile and boat tax; works with the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles to process requests for abatement of motor vehicle excise tax; maintains town boat files and processes boat warrants and abatements; receives applications for exemptions, investigates and reviews the applications, determines eligibility, and then processes the exemptions; creates and maintains state exemption reports; processes and files reports with DOR and Division of Local Services for exemption reimbursement; prepares and submits the department’s accounts payable; maintains the departmental budget; and provides relevant department information to the public.
Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent with courses in office procedures and business practices; two (2) years of experience involving customer service, administrative work, and record-keeping or related fields; or any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
The successful candidate has strong Microsoft Office skills with particular emphasis on Excel. The ideal candidate has the ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy, to deal tactfully and appropriately with the general public and other town departments, and strong organizational skills. Once employed, the successful candidate must pass the Massachusetts Association of Assessing Officers Course 200: Principles of Assessing Procedures.
Expected Starting Range: Step 1 ($25.65/hour) – Step 3 ($27.75/hour), commensurate with qualifications and experience, with room to grow along the 7-step pay scale.
