The Town of Morristown is hiring Lead Camp Counselors to supervise the day-to-day activities of our 2025 Summer Camp. Lead Counselors will work directly with campers to provide a safe, responsible, well-supervised summer camp experience, while also maintaining a good rapport with parents and the community. Lead Counselors will be responsible for providing lifeguard duties and water safety, planning games and activities, maintaining organization and structure, and sharing important information with all program staff. They will also engage with families daily and must have strong communication skills. We are seeking qualified, child-centered, and motivated individuals with experience in youth and children's programs. Candidates should be ready to commit to a 7-week summer program starting on/around 6/23/25 with a full-time or part-time work schedule, plus training time.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Supervise the day-to-day operations of their assigned camp group and provide guidance to Counselors as needed
- Assist Co-Directors in maintaining accurate daily attendance records
- Oversee group activities, schedules, and supplies while providing regular updates to Co-Directors
- Ensure strict adherence to safety guidelines by both campers and staff
- Monitor lifeguard rotations and supervise campers during swim and water activities
- Provide guidance and support to campers with behavioral challenges
- Build positive rapport with campers, parents, and community members
- Adapt quickly to changes in weather, schedule, or other unforeseen circumstances
- Report issues, behavioral incidents, injuries, or concerns promptly to Co-Directors
- Maintain a positive attitude and strong communication with guardians, staff, and campers
- Serve as a mandated reporter communicating any concerns about camper well-being to Co-Directors immediately
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to manage assigned camper groups
- Effective communication skills with children, parents, staff, and supervisors
- Reliable punctuality for scheduled shifts and training
- Proactive problem-solving abilities to address challenges quickly
- Ability to lead a team of campers and counselors effectively
Education and Experience:
- 18 years of age or older preferred
- Have hands-on experience in planning and leading group activities for children
- Have a passion for the outdoors and enthusiasm working with children
- 2-3 years of Camp Counselor experience preferred
- Have CPR/First Aid Certification*
- Have Mandated Reporter training* (preferred)
- Have Lifeguard and Water Safety certification* (preferred)
*These certifications shall be part of training if not currently be held
Status: Hourly, Seasonal; Full time or Part time
Wages: $19.25-$20.50/hour commensurate with experience
