STAFF ACCOUNTANT
General Statement of Duties:
- Responsible for the review of all payables prior to processing in A/P system.
- Comparison to budget to insure funding availability and account coding
- Determine proper departmental approval of expenditure
- Monitor and modify Purchase Orders as needed for invoice payment application
- Analysis of Town line item budgeted expense accounts
- Performs financial and statistical record keeping
- Budget and reporting analysis support for utilities
- Electronic payment of Federal and State income taxes
- Cross-trained and will assist in training of others as determined by departmental need
- Back up for Payroll and A/P processing, recording and reporting
- Records retention requests to the State
- Assist in fiscal year end closing process for A/P and Purchase Orders
- Electronic transmission of Payroll ACH
- Electronic processing of outstanding checks for Bank Reconciliation
- Maintains strict confidentiality required by the office.
- Related work as assigned
- Special projects

Supervision Exercised: noneMinimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
- Knowledge of office procedures and principles of office management and or record keeping
- Strong computer skills with an emphasis on Word and Excel
- Ability to respond courteously to the public
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to learn appropriate State and Town laws
- Clear and concise written and oral expression
- Accuracy and attention to details
Experience and Training:
- Associates Degree in Accounting with two (2) years of progressively responsible accounting experience, OR
- Graduation from high school or GED with four (4) years of progressively responsible accounting experience
- Financial analysis experience preferred

Each candidate must have the required experience and training to be eligible for this position which includes: Associates Degree in Accounting with two (2) years of progressively responsible accounting experience, OR, graduation from high school or GED with four (4) years of progressively responsible accounting experience with financial analysis experience preferred.

This examination will be conducted for the Town of Trumbull by the Trumbull Civil Service Board within the authority of Section 7-413 of the 1959 revision of the State of CT General Statutes.
