Trader Joe's is unlike any place you've ever worked. Trust us on that. The qualified person has at least 1 year of Accounting experience and is a raving fan of the Trader Joe's concept. A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting is strongly preferred. This role is based in our office in Monrovia, California.
The Staff Accountant is responsible for:
- Auditing and posting weekly sales to the general ledger including working with IT to ensure all sales are accounted for.
- Prepare general ledger entries, reconciliations for month-end close relating to lease accounting for over 560 stores (ASC 842, excess rent, prepaid cam and taxes), provide analysis on fluctuations from the month-over-month and year-over-year comparisons.
- Prepare month end journal entries and account reconciliations for various accounts including prepaids, accruals, fixed assets and cash.
- Review various expense accounts to categorize spend and provide explanations of large variances on month-over-month or year-over-year basis.
- Perform Cash disbursement Store audits on a monthly basis to ensure disbursements are recorded appropriately.
- Assist with fixed asset closing including invoice and expense review to determine if charges should be capitalized based on GAAP and Company policy perspective.
- Working collaboratively with other departments.
The qualified candidate has:
- A Bachelor's or higher degree required with a concentration in Accounting preferred.
- Prior ASC 842 and monthly closing experience is highly desired but not required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Applications.
- Multi-unit retail and SAP working knowledge preferred.
