What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child/ Youth Advocate position at Tranquility House Domestic Violence Center?
Position Overview:
The Child and Youth Advocate at Tranquility House serves as the advocate for all child-youth residing in the shelter and through outreach. The position is responsible for planning and implementing child and youth-focused programming, under the direction of the Assistant Director. Child and Youth programs include but are not limited to; mentoring, crisis intervention, organizing and implementing activities, facilitating support groups, community presentations and development of innovative programs as identified.
Essential Job Functions as Youth Advocate:
· Completes intake on each child and youth in the shelter, identifying areas of concern or need
· Maintains complete records on children and youth and keeps statistical data on each of them.
· Meets with and gets to know each child and youth individually, providing time to talk and interact privately.
· Gather information and ensure parents receive resources, referrals, information, and support.
· Implements an evidence-based support group for children and youth and collects data to measure the effectiveness of the group.
· Serves as a liaison with schools and community agencies.
· Assists with homework and other after-school needs.
· Coordinates tutoring services when needed through partnerships including but not limited to Children’s Restoration Network
· Provides educational opportunities for youth regarding healthy relationships.
· Offers parenting education as it relates to child and youth growth and development.
· Creates and coordinates programs for children and youth.
· Promptly document all service provisions/notes as well as other relevant information in the caseworthy database by the end of shift.
· Develop and maintain child and youth advocacy programs and community outreach programs.
Utilize materials specific to child witness to domestic violence i.e., safety planning, identifying emotions, hands are not for hitting, some days he growled, the effects of domestic violence on children……
· Develop and maintain field trip program.
· Build partnerships with local schools and other community partners.
· Plan celebration of birthdays and holidays
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $16.00 per hour
