Job Summary:
The Safety Manager will be responsible for the development, implementation, and management of safety programs within our transportation operations. This includes overseeing the safety performance of all employees, vehicles, and facilities, ensuring compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations, and promoting a safety-conscious environment at all levels of the organization.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive safety program tailored to transportation operations, including vehicle safety, driver safety, and operational safety.
· Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transportation safety regulations, including OSHA, DOT, and other relevant safety standards. Stay updated on changes in safety legislation and implement necessary changes to company policies and procedures.
· Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and safety inspections to identify potential hazards. Investigate accidents, injuries, and near-miss incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
· Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees, including safe driving practices, emergency response protocols, and equipment handling. Travel to various company locations to conduct in-person training sessions and ensure that all employees are well-informed about safety procedures and best practices.
· Maintain accurate records of safety-related incidents, training, inspections, and audits. Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory bodies (OSHA, DOT) and senior management.
· Foster a culture of safety by engaging with employees at all levels, encouraging participation in safety programs, and promoting safe work behaviors. Lead safety meetings and provide regular updates to management on safety performance.
· Oversee the inspection, maintenance, and repair schedules for vehicles and equipment, ensuring they meet safety standards and regulations. Collaborate with maintenance teams to address any safety-related concerns.
· Develop and implement emergency response plans for transportation-related incidents. Ensure all employees are trained in emergency procedures and know how to respond to accidents, spills, or other emergencies.
· Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:·Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
·Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
· Strong understanding of risk assessment, accident investigation, and safety auditing processes.
· In-depth knowledge of transportation safety regulations (DOT, OSHA, etc.).
· Ability to travel to various locations as needed to conduct in-person safety training sessions, audits, and inspections.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence at all levels of the organization.
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Transportation, Logistics, or a related field (preferred).
· 4-5 years of experience in a safety management role within the transportation, logistics, or related industries.
· OSHA and DOT Certification (required).
· In-depth knowledge of transportation safety regulations (DOT, OSHA, etc.).
· Experience in developing and delivering safety training programs.
· Certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CHST, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods.
· Ability to lift and move up to 50lbs occasionally
