Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated Legal and Compliance Intern (L&C) to join our team and gain practical experience on regulations, laws, and contractual agreements. As a L&C Intern, you will work closely with our legal and compliance professionals to support various tasks and projects that drive business growth in a complex global legal and regulatory environment. You will help advise on the impact of existing and future regulatory requirements on our various businesses and products. You will have the opportunity to develop solutions and provide an independent analysis of new business strategies, product lines, policies, operational processes, risk mitigation, and internal controls.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in conducting enhanced due diligence for new and existing third-party business partners by requesting the Know Your Customer Form (KYC), Due Diligence Questionnaire, or Vendor Form, and conducting the initial review.
• Assist in gathering information by researching customers, suppliers, and third parties from various sources, including credit reports, Bloomberg, Reuters, stock exchanges, and Google, whenever required.
• Assist in sanction screening within Dow Jones, our third-party screening software, to review and determine any potential red flags.
• Review vessel and barge-related information received from Operations by conducting due diligence from Tricon systems, such as Seasearcher, Equasis, Q88, and other sources, to ensure the vessel is compliant before adding it in JDE.
• Assist in preparing, implementing, and/or monitoring compliance audits.
• Assist in developing compliance training and ensure it is carried out effectively, working with training providers and systems.
• Assist in managing agency and consultancy agreements and ensure compliance with all onboarding procedures, payments, and compliance policies pertaining to third parties.
• Monitor compliance for third parties, including brokers, freight forwarders, agents, and providers, reaching out to third parties as needed to address compliance matters or participate in interviews to compile compliance information.
• Assist in automating compliance and legal processes and systems.
• Assist in creating leadership-level reports on subjects such as Gifts and Hospitality, KYC Questionnaire for Customers/Suppliers (e.g., Power BI).
• Assist in other compliance and legal projects as needed.

• High-level computer skills, particularly expertise with Microsoft Office programs.
• Basic understanding of legal and compliance laws, regulations, and policies.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Proactive, innovative, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team.
• Strong research and analytical skills to assist with legal and compliance regulation changes relevant to our business.
• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Liberal Arts, Business, or a related field (or currently pursuing one).
