What are the responsibilities and job description for the Long Term Sub - Spanish Teacher & Support at TAPA: Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts position at Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts?
School Year 2023-2024: Long Term Substitute High School Spanish Instructor at TAPA: Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts | Providence, RII
TAPA: Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts, an academically rigorous public charter school for the arts, seeks an High School Spanish Instructor. The ideal candidate recognizes and celebrates the interconnections between the study of Spanish language and culture and the arts through a culturally responsive pedagogical framework.
TAPA’s anti-oppression creative community is enriched by the cultural, religious, racial, ethnic, and linguistic diversity of our neurodiverse families, students, and employees. Demographically, nearly all members of the TAPA student body are people of color, predominantly Latinx, with many students speaking both English and Spanish in their homes. A significant portion of TAPA’s student body identifies as members of the LGBTQ community. It is an organizational priority for TAPA to hire staff members who have cultural commonalities with our students and families.
The High School Spanish Instructor will join TAPA's small-but-thriving Spanish Language and Culture Department. They will teach two classes, each with approximately 18 students. Classes will be L2 Spanish courses. They will also provide support to MLL students, and work directly with a smaller group of Upper School students to lead an Advisory. It is the hope that an Advisor stays with their advisory throughout the students’ full TAPA careers. Advisory provides an opportunity for social-emotional learning and support. The Advisor/Advisee relationship ensures that every student has a school-based advocate and a first-line connection to TAPA. Advisors and Advisees build strong relationships and bridges through empathy. This position is an incredible opportunity to join TAPA's tight-knit teaching corps.
At TAPA, the arts are deeply embedded into the core of interdisciplinary learning. TAPA prepares students to successfully meet or exceed Rhode Island’s graduation requirements and perform at (or above) grade level on all state and local assessments. TAPA meets each student’s individual academic needs using assessment data and continuous feedback while providing clear academic, social, and artistic expectations.
At its core, TAPA is a student-centered caring community that fosters leadership, intellect, self-confidence, and responsibility. Inclusion, equity, social justice, and diversity frameworks are core components of every course. Racial and ethnic minorities and individuals with disabilities, as well as candidates from diverse backgrounds and with diverse experiences, particularly related to social justice education and/or initiatives, are strongly encouraged to apply.
