Trinity Episcopal School is currently seeking a full-time Director of Learning Support to
oversee all aspects of the Learning Support program and manage information related to
students with diagnosed learning differences. The Director of Learning Support plays a
pivotal role in maintaining a clear communication channel with parents, tutors, faculty,
and students with learning differences. Working in collaboration with the Division Heads,
the Director of Learning Support proactively identifies and directs her team to remediate
at-risk students to support academic achievement and social/emotional learning.
Specific responsibilities of the Director of Learning Support include:
- Provide leadership and guidance to the Learning Support team across the four
- Conduct classroom observations and assessments for struggling students; share
- Read and interpret educational evaluations to determine appropriate school
- Create and execute a plan for standardized testing for those with
- Create individual learning profiles to be shared with the appropriate teachers;
- Establish communication channels with parents to discuss learning challenges,
strategies, and accommodations and create an action plan for each child with
learning goals. Meetings/conversations with parents are to be scheduled in a
timely manner;
- Serve as an advocate for students with learning differences who have mandated
- Regularly meet with and support individuals or small groups of students with a
- Initiate referrals for professional evaluations for students who may have an
- Ensure all student evaluations are current and contact parents when evaluations
- Maintain electronic/paper files pertaining to students with diagnosed learning
- Maintain a list of professional resources, such as educational psychologists,
collaboration with the Learning Support team;
- Keep current and informed about new trends, resources, and best practices in
- Attend professional development opportunities when possible;
- Serve as a resource for administrators, teachers, learning specialists, and other
professionals through professional development, meetings, and dialogue with
classroom teachers;
- Create schedules for student support;
- Attend and collaborate with teachers in weekly team meetings to monitor student
- Coordinate student schedules with outside therapists in collaboration with the
- Collect and distribute outside therapy progress summaries at the end of each
- Maintain a list of students seeing outside therapists and distribute schedules to
homeroom teachers and division heads in collaboration with the Learning
Support team;
- Collaborate with outside therapists of students receiving learning support and
teachers;
- Prepare agenda and lead weekly Learning Support team meetings;
- Establish an open dialogue with parents by sharing a monthly learning support
- Send quarterly Learning Support Progress summaries to the parents of all
- Meet with parents at the beginning and again at the end of the school year to
review classroom accommodations, share progress, and address any ongoing
concerns.
The Director of Learning Support applicant will have at least three years of experience
working with students with learning differences. The preferred candidate holds a
Bachelor’s degree, but an advanced degree in Special Education and/or certification in
serving students with learning disabilities is preferred. The candidate is invested in
curriculum, pedagogy, and the science of learning; they possess strong organizational
and interpersonal skills and are committed to lifelong learning.
