Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) is a not-for-profit, community-owned water utility, overseen by elected officials and citizen appointees from Reno, Sparks and Washoe County. TMWA has a highly skilled workforce who ensure the around-the-clock treatment, delivery and availability of high-quality drinking water for more than 400,000 residents of the Truckee Meadows.

We are looking to hire a FACILITIES COORDINATOR to join our DISTRIBUTION department.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Facilities Coordinator coordinates employees, work and contractors involved in the general maintenance, repair and upkeep of TMWA's facilities including buildings, grounds, and landscaping. The incumbent ensures regulatory code compliance and permitting of all TMWA facilities including but not limited to building air quality, plumbing and fire prevention systems. Will have the primary responsibility for all grounds and landscape maintenance whether with staff or contracted services.

The Facilities Coordinator has oversight for activities such as painting, glazing, carpentry, fence repair, sprinkler system maintenance, grounds, and building upkeep, lighting, building mechanical, plumbing and electrical components and graffiti removal.

  • Coordinates and schedules facilities and or grounds maintenance and repairs.
  • Dispatches Facility Maintenance personnel and provides assignments.
  • Conducts continual site assessments of TMWA Facilities to effectively and efficiently plan work assignments.
  • Responds to requests from TMWA personnel (customers) and external customers for service as it relates to overall facilities maintenance and repairs.
  • Coordinates heating, ventilation and cooling system required maintenance, repairs and adjustments as they arise and works with the HVAC Technicians to respond to customer requests or needs.
  • Coordinates and assures compliance with plans and specifications with contract work on the electrical, plumbing, mechanical and other related systems in TMWA facilities.
  • Maintains project tracking systems (CMMS) to track incoming and outgoing maintenance work orders including tracking seasonal charging, testing and winterization of backflow devises and associated irrigation systems as well as to track ongoing HVAC equipment and systems servicing.
  • Plans, coordinates and conducts a variety of building maintenance projects including plumbing maintenance and repair as well as upgrades to mechanical/plumbing/electrical systems.
  • Coordinates general inside repairs such as painting, patching walls, security hardware, hanging shelves and the replacement and/or relocation of office furniture.
  • Coordinates outside activities associated with landscaping including weed abatement, herbicide, and pesticide use.
  • Monitors building maintenance projects to ensure keeping with project schedules, compliance with plans and or specifications and project completion.
  • Provides data to manager and supervisor to support budget development.
  • Conveys needs and coordinates purchase orders for procuring materials, equipment and contract labor, and audits project expenditures to ensure contract compliance.
  • Monitors maintenance performance and standards, investigates unusual trends and recommends necessary adjustments.
  • Reviews and recommends acceptance for equipment and supplies related to Building Facilities work.
  • Trains new and existing staff in existing work methods to ensure conformance with accepted standards based upon such factors as work objectives, results desired, and departmental goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
  • Attends and participates in internal/external meetings, completes required forms, documents and paperwork and prepares work program and reports work progress.
  • Communicates with others outside own work area to coordinate efforts and maintain cooperative and efficient relations
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the minimum requirements is:

Experience: Four (4) to six (6) years of progressively responsible work in a facility maintenance role, including experience in administering building and facilities maintenance and project management including building envelop maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, grounds keeping and contract management.
Education & Training: High school diploma or equivalent (required). Coursework in facilities management, knowledge of backflow principals, and regulations regarding the use of pesticides/herbicides is desired.

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language including reading, writing, and speaking English.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Certification in facilities management is desirable.

A valid Nevada (or California – depending on state of residency) Driver License at time of hire and continuing thereafter and ability to maintain insurability under TMWA's vehicle insurance policy.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation during hire and periodically thereafter during employment.

This position is considered a safety sensitive position and employment is contingent upon the results of drug and/or alcohol testing which includes screening for marijuana. The presence of marijuana or other screened for substances on any employment related substance test may result in a refusal to hire or termination of employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:
Basic building maintenance methods, procedures and techniques; principles and practices of facility and grounds preventative maintenance; regulatory requirements; grounds and building maintenance; herbicide and pesticide use including regulatory requirements; familiar with the operation and function of alarm systems, i.e. fire, intrusion, chemicals, gas detectors.

Skill/Ability to:
Work well with other departments and outside agencies and contractors; represent and present utility policy, goals and values to employees, customers, and outside agencies; analyze, evaluate, and determine the priority of tasks, alternatives, and reach sound conclusions; understand, interpret and apply all pertinent company, county, city and state regulations, statutes, ordinances and policies; maintain accurate records and files; independently organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow-up on assignments; use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy, procedural, and legal guidelines; literacy in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook for spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail, databases; multitask in an effort to handle a variety of ongoing projects; schedule, coordinate and review facility maintenance; maintain budget records; perform and identify necessary work required; be punctual regarding work hours established by TMWA; be mentally and physically alert during working hours.
